Les dessins du fonds constituent un témoignage de la pratique professionnelle de l'architecte François Breton à Montréal. Ils permettent essentiellement de documenter un projet architectural et ses relations avec l'évêché de Montréal.

Les dessins représentent des plans préliminaires et d'exécution signés par l'architecte François Breton, et non datés. Il s'agit de 6 dessins pour des maisons en rangées pour l'évêché de Montréal.

Les dessins ont été probablement produits entre les années 1872 et 1876.

Biographical notes

FRANÇOIS BRETON

François Breton est architecte, actif à Montréal entre 1872 et 1876. Le répertoire "Montreal Architects: Classified City Directory listings, 1842-1950" indique l'enregistrement de son bureau d'architecte à Montréal, sur la rue St-André, seulement pour les années 1872-1873 à 1875-1876.

Par ailleurs, il est listé dans le répertoire des professionnels et hommes d'affaires "The Canada Directory, 1857-58" comme arpenteur à Montréal en 1857.

  • Les dessins ont été donnés au CCA par le Comité de Construction et d'Art sacré de l'Archevêché de Montréal en 1997.

Archivist's note

  • The fonds was previously described in 1998 by the Archives Department, and individual objects were previously catalogued by Elspeth Cowell in 1995. In 2009, the information on the fonds was entered in TMS and linked to the individually catalogued records, by Alexis Lenk, to create the completed finding aid.
