Soirée-At-Home

Please join us on Wednesday 2 June 2021, 6:30 PM EDT for What, if not the family? A Soirée-At-Home.

This June, the CCA invites you to take part in a year-long conversation we’re unfolding about how architecture can catch up with life.

What, if not the family? is a virtual benefit that celebrates the CCA’s community of supporters and calls on you to help explore the questions that preoccupy us. We’ll come together around the fault lines of our present and see where we land.

What happens to the built environment when we expand the array of relationships we arrange ourselves into? How can architecture express forms of kinship beyond the traditional family?

We’re relating in new ways today. We are living alone, unmarried, childless (or childfree, if you prefer), and for longer. We are living with our partners’ children, with strangers and siblings, with multiple generations in the same home, with more fluid understandings of gender and domestic roles and work and love. We are reconfiguring and even leaving behind fundamental Western ideas of family—as genetic ties, as a safe haven from the world, as a building block of society.

What, if not the family? will be a dynamic evening of lively dialogue that previews the projects your support helps make possible and will also offer many opportunities to mingle and celebrate. You can choose between individual and group registrations.

If you cannot join and wish to support our work, please visit our donation form. Your support enables the CCA to sustain our work constructing an architectural agenda for the present and future. Please note that there will be an open portion of the 2021 Soirée-at-Home that will welcome the public.
