Level of archival description:
File 3
Extent and medium:
  • 71 drawings
    19 reprographic copies
    37 panels
    0.02 l.m. of textual records
Scope and content:
File documents Cedric Price's thesis for the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, England, a comprehensive twenty-year development plan for the town of Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. Ordinance surveys and land-use plans of the existing city centre, and a panel with various photographs of the surrounding area provide an analysis of existing regional conditions. The first of thirty-five presentation panels provides a detailed description of the thesis programme and an outline of design concepts and planning problems, while the remaining boards show the design development of the project. Planning and programming drawings include site plans showing proposed pedestrian and traffic circulation, building massing and block plans. A roughly sketched section shows the proposed use of various areas. There are numerous schematic and design development drawings including plans, elevations, exterior building sections, and isometric detail drawings which show the partial structure for a hotel. Material in this file was produced between 1952 and 1957, but predominantly between 1956 and 1957.

File contains design development drawings, reference drawings, presentation panels, photographic materials and textual records.
