Scope and content:
File documents an unsuccessful entry by the Foreign Office Architects for the Novartis Underground Car Park & Gate competition, Basel, Switzerland. This competition called for the design of a central entrance to the company campus, including an integrated gate, café, service facilities, 1,000 parking spaces and landscape design, for a total area of 37,000m2. Material in this file was produced between 2002 and 2004.
File includes plans, drawings, presentation material and copies of design proposals for this project by other architectural firms, including Acconci Studio, Burkhalter Sumi Architekten, Zaha Hadid Architects and Josep Lluis Mateo/MAP Architects. File also contains digital material that is currently being processed and is temporarily unavailable for consultation.
Note: A Golden Lion award received by the Foreign Office Architects during the 9th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2004 Venice Biennale of Architecture. The award was in the category of Topography, for the Foreign Office Architects' design for the Novartis Underground Car Park & Gate. See record ARCH268925.
