Forty years after his death, the Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo (MAXXI) in Rome is dedicating a major retrospective to this exceptional figure. Beginning with his architecture, which can be charaterised as a unique and original synthesis of tradition and modernity, history and design, elite culture and everyday life, the show explores his many-faceted talent, selecting projects that concretely illustrate the key concepts found throughout his architecture and design work. Included here are archival materials, models, photographs, books, magazines and objects which illustrate the many achievements of his six decade career.

Résumé:
"Emilio Ambasz" is a monograph devoted to the internationally celebrated architect and designer who is known for designs that skilfully unite architecture and city landscapes and showcase spatial and urbanistic proposals of an absolute originality. Ambasz creates urban complexes that rise like volcanoes of glass-works of architecture that are natural landscapes and gardens that turn into artificial mechanisms. This monograph documents the creative world of this New York-based architect-designer in both large- and small-scale designs: from the crystalline complex of the San Antonio Botanical Center in Texas (1982) to the Aqua Dove Mineral Water Bottle and an opaque and granite office tower in Phoenix (1998). Ambasz is a master designer at the height of his genius and this book focuses on his more recent works throughout North America.

Résumé:
With sketches and photographs, this book illustrates the project and the different phases in the construction of Triennale Design Museum in Giovanni Muzio's Palazzo dell'Arte, Milan. Since the beginning it presented a stimulating challenge, that of providing an independent and autonomous identity to a museum housed inside the Triennale, an institution of great importance in the history of Italian design during the last fifty years. The most innovatory architectural element of Triennale Design Museum is represented by its entrance through a bridge, a feature that enables the museum to stand as an autonomous entity, being at the same time part of the Triennale.
