Curatorial Design: A Place Between

Event, in English, Shaughnessy House, 24 September 2022, 3pm to 7:30pm

Curatorial Design evolves from the consideration of architectural production as a public matter. It brings together curatorial practices—based on reassembling knowledge from the centre of a complex network of relationships—into design. Linking the architectural with curatorial, Curatorial Design asks how architects can establish different relations with the environment and claim spaces of political relevance and responsibility through new forms of authoring, commissioning, and use.

The one-day public conference at the CCA will bring together critical provocations cultivated and expanded upon during the project through activating Curatorial Design as practice and establishing the Public School for Architecture [Öffentliche Bauschule]. The public conference will take place in three panels categorized into practice, pedagogy, and the public to share the research outcomes and implications in these areas while opening them to responses from invited guests and the audience.

Curatorial Design: A Place Between (2017-) is an ongoing research project led by Wilfried Kuehn along with Anousheh Kehar, Gili Merin, Dubravka Sekulić, and Milica Tomić at the IZK Institute for Contemporary Art in the Architecture Department (Graz University of Technology, Austria). The project is funded by the Programme for Arts-based Research (PEEK) of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). The CCA is one of the project partners.
