In conversation with Iwona Buczkowska and Angela Davis

Special event, in English, Paul-Desmarais Theatre, 7 March 2024, 6pm-8.30pm

This year, in association with The Architectural Review and the Architects’ Journal, we are hosting the W Awards, which help to raise the profile of women and non-binary people in architecture worldwide, by recognising the significant contributions to architecture and the built environment by individuals from the field and adjacent fields.

Join us for an evening of conversation with the recipients of the 2024 W Awards. Polish-French architect Iwona Buczkowska, the winner of Jane Drew Prize for Architecture 2024, will present her radical experiments in timber construction and social housing. Political activist, philosopher, and writer Angela Davis, winner of the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize for Contribution to Architecture 2024, will participate online with architect, educator, and researcher Marie-Louise Richards in a discussion on the important influence of Davis’s advocacy of social justice on architectural practice. We will also hear from Mycket, winners of the Prize for Research in Gender and Architecture, and the winners of the Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture and MJ Long Prize for Excellence in Practice will be announced.

The event is moderated by Manon Mollard and Eleanor Beaumont, editors of The Architectural Review, who are joined by Giovanna Borasi, Phyllis Lambert, winner of the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize for Contribution to Architecture 2023, and Inuk artist asinnajaq, who was commissioned to create the 2024 W Awards trophies.

This event is free. Register here.
