Summary:

The Chuck Hoberman fonds documents research and experimentation conducted by Chuck Hoberman over two decades on a variety of folding structures, and the development of certain specific projects such as the Iris Dome and other expanding spheres. Drawings, calculations and notes, computer programs, prototypes and models, photographs and videos, show the development of basic concepts, patenting of the underlying inventions, detail design of structures, the working of mechanisms and the movement of structures, public presentation at fairs, exhibitions, as well as media coverage. Material in this fonds was produced between ca. 1985 and 2006.

Biographical note:

Chuck Hoberman (b. 1956). New York-based mechanical engineer, artist, and product designer. Inventor of 'unfolding structures'-- objects that transform their size and shape; president of Hoberman Designs, Inc.
