Speed and its Limits

Speed and its Limits explores the pivotal role played by speed in modern life: from art to architecture and urbanism to graphics and design to economics to the material culture of the eras of industry and information. A colloquium organised by the CCA, in collaboration with the Wolfsonian-Florida International University and Stanford Humanities Lab, in preparation for the 2009 exhibition Speed Limits.

Featured speakers include: Jeffrey T. Schnapp, Stanford Humanities Lab Pierre Merlin, Université de Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne Edward Dimendberg, University of California, Irvine Jeffrey Meikle, University of Texas at Austin Robert Levine, California State University Tamar Zinguer, The Cooper Union Stephen Kern, Ohio State University Timothy C. Harte, Bryn Mawr College Guy Nordenson, Princeton University and Guy Nordenson & Associates

Speed Limits, curated by Jeffrey T. Schnapp, marks the centenary of the foundation of the Italian Futurist movement, whose inaugural manifesto famously proclaimed “that the world’s magnificence has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed.” Presented in collaboration with the Wolfsonian-Florida International University.
