This illustrated volume offers a comprehensive overview of the work of Iraqi architect Hadid from her earliest works realized in 1979 to her most recent projects. "Zaha Hadid: Architecture" is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the MAK in Vienna. The book is the first to document the artist´s newest projects and presents an extensive overview over her oeuvre. It contains numerous color illustrations of designs, models and as yet mostly unpublished paintings by Hadid as well as photographs of buildings realised and under construction. Includes texts by Andreas Ruby and Patrik Schuhmacher. shedding profound light onto the architect´s oeuvre. Another special feature is the documentation of the installation "Ice-Storm" especially developed for the MAK exhibition, a "space experiment" with a surface area of 300 m2, a weight of eight tons and height of seven metres, providing the audience with a possibility for an active approach to Hadid´s radically new language of form and space.

Summary:
When it comes to matters related to architecture and urban planning, few other countries grant their population such a far-reaching democratic right of co-determination as Switzerland. The strategy facilitates both a societal acceptance of architecture and the constant prevention of projects, among which are some rather notable examples. Such projects, often painstakingly developed but ultimately not implemented, are part and parcel of the everyday life of Swiss architectural firms. Whether lost, rejected, stalled, or altered, a host of architectural designs exist that are still spoken about today, despite the fact that nothing ever came of them. This is a representative selection.

Summary:
This young German architect contributes to the current debate in modern architecture with his innovative designs. André Poitiers' adventure in design has been one of experimentation, an experimentation in which he has pursued difficult objectives and pushed himself to the edge of known territory. The expertise is there, acquired in the studio of Norman Foster, but his dream has invaded the territory of architecture and generated intentionally provocative figures. Poitiers picked his own, original way, driven by futuristic and iconoclastic impetus. Technology and New Pop seem to have been the hardware and software of his path. The most recent goal on Poitiers' journey is Plasma, the liquid, organic and living material, liable to alter in relation to functional and environmental factors. Poitiers' unusual and individual approach to designing is reflected in the graphics and presentation of the book.

Summary:
This paradigm shift is reflected in architecture as well: in recent years, increasingly innovative collective housing projects, organized around the principle of trading-in private spaces for larger, more luxurious shared spaces, have been emerging across the globe—many of them realized through bottom-up grassroots initiatives. The return of the collective in architecture has resulted in surprising architectural solutions that also create new urban spaces. "Together! The new architecture of the collective" presents around 20 international building projects from Europe, Japan and the US that provide innovative platforms for collective living in the present day. A selection of projects is discussed in detail, and extensive photo essays offer vivid impressions of the daily collective and private life and everyday routines in these buildings. Interviews with movers and shakers from the collective housing scene, written by international journalists, offer insights and background information on the processes and people that have made each project possible. All this is complemented by theoretical and historical context, including analytical essays by experts in the field, infographics providing facts and figures, diagrams explaining how different collective housing models work and an extensive timeline detailing the genealogy of the collective housing movement in the 20th century.

Urban swimming is more popular than ever. When it comes to swimming in rivers, Swiss cities are international trailblazers. Moreover, in places like London, New York, Paris, and Berlin, increasing numbers of people are seeking access to the rivers, harbours, and canals in the built environment. Rivers and their banks are gradually being seen as natural public resources, a place of leisure that is both convenient and firmly anchored in everyday life. Together with an exhibition at the Swiss Architecture Museum, this book documents this recent phenomenon, exploring how cities can reclaim their waters as a spatial resource and sustainably improve the quality of urban life.

Summary:
Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has one of the most important buildings of the 20th century: its parliamentary building by Louis I. Kahn constructed between 1961 and 1982. Little is known, however, about the local architecture scene that has emerged since then. Yet contemporary architecture in Bangladesh exhibits a strong formal idiom that has its roots in tradition and is combined with an innovative handling of local resources such as bamboo and brick. Alongside texts by Andreas Ruby, Niklaus Graber, Kazi Khaleed, Saif Ul Haque and Syed Manzoorul Islam, the special photographs taken by Iwan Baan for this publication capture the imagination.
