Summary:
The influence of the award-winning Jordanian architect Rasem Badran is rapidly spreading throughout the developing world. His work involves the full spectrum from urban planning to individual residences. His work is human-scaled, responsive to its environment and meets the social and cultural requirements of the people who use it. For the first time, this volume provides an overview of the work of one who could be seen as the natural successor to the seminal Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy and brings together the architect’s own dramatic collection of drawings, plans and photographs, many seen here for the first time. A comprehensive chronology of Badran’s work completes a fascinating survey of this influential and revolutionary architect.

Summary:
De Lucchi (Ferrara 1951) was a protagonist of 'Radical Architecture', and also of the Cavart, Alchimia and Memphis movements. He has designed industrial objects for companies that are household words, such as Artemide, Kartell, Matsuhita, Mauser, Poltrona Frau and Olivetti; and buildings and interiors for clients like Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bundesbahn, Enel, Poste Italiane and Telecom Italia. In 1990 he founded Produzione Privata, an enterprise with an artisanal slant where he creates prototypes for industrial objects in limited editions by constantly drawing on Italy's skilled craft tradition. He also lectures at the IUAV University in Venice. This volume analyzes De Lucchi's works and his ideas on, among other things, the evolution of the workplace and of the objects that make up the varied landscape of advanced societies. The monograph is introduced by an essay that places De Lucchi's multifaceted work in perspective - from his debut as an artist at the beginning of the 1970s to his recent 'service design' - and includes detailed descriptions of a wide range of his major projects, a complete list of all his works, a bibliography and a selection of his writings.

Summary:
Ortlos is German for "placeless." It is also the appropriate designation for a virtual architectural office and discussion forum dealing with experimental architecture, urban planning, media theory, art installations, and product and interface design. Architects, web designers, media theorists, media artists, and information-technology specialists from around the world work together off-site, independent of a specific workplace. The conceptual and design process goes on in collaboration in a trans-local environment, created out of a network of virtually combined workplaces. The architects of ORTLOS characterize the "end of architecture" in a way that is comparable to American graphic-design legend David Carson's radical description of the "end of the print medium." This publication, the result of an unusual creative collaboration between ORTLOS and Carson, presents a dozen projects, dating from 2000 to 2003. With foreword by Thom Mayne.
