Summary:
In this book, Vladimir Belogolovsky reflects on nearly twenty years of conversations with leading creatives from around the world whose focus is on art, photography, architecture, design, critical theory, and more. His intimate dialogues are with prolific visionaries, the likes of Paul Andreu, Aaron Betsky, Tatiana Bilbao, Christo, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Toyo Ito, Glenn Murcutt, Renzo Piano, Moshe Safdie, Ric Scofido, Richard Serra, Frank Stella, Michael Sorkin, Stanley Tigerman, Bernard Tschumi, Lin Utzon, Massimo Vignelli, Madelon Vriesendorp, and so many others. He exposes the complexity of their thought processes, while comparing and contrasting them to one another to distill more than 101 ideas. His engaging narrative captures the stories behind every project and every personality while exploring many important questions, including: What makes a building architecture? How would a Futurist solve problems vs those whose focus is on nostalgia? The selection of interviews gathers many answers and intentions, but inevitably, also many more questions. ''Imagine buildings floating like clouds'' represents a diverse group of multitalented, creative people who work in disparate places culturally and climatically and came of age in very different times- from the revolutionary 1960s to our own time, when the future, for many, is being more feared than desired.

Summary:
This book presents innovative examples of hidden architecture: buildings that are designed to disappear into their surroundings or hide in plain sight. In the city, hidden buildings are often designed to provide the occupants with privacy and protection from the busy world outside or they can be incorporated into the streetscape to free up space for public use. In the countryside, buildings should not spoil a scenic landscape, so they can be designed to become a part of it. Buildings can be buried underground, hidden amongst trees, covered with greenery or even sunk into the sea. They can be clad in mirrors to reflect their surroundings, disappear beneath an urban plaza or be hidden from view on top of another building. Each of these imaginative solutions offers a way for architecture to blend in rather than stand out. ''Hidden architecture'' tells the stories of projects from around the world that are cleverly disguised but still beautifully detailed and outstanding in their execution.

Summary:
Digital devices gather real-time data about urban space with sensors, actuators, and artificial intelligence. We have entered the era of the ''eyes of the city,'' when each of us must negotiate everyday life under the omnipresent gaze. Following up on the eponymous exhibition at the Bi-City Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture 2019, this book examines the relationships between cities and digital technologies across various disciplines. As the Internet of Things dramatically expands its reach, touching upon critical issues including individual anonymity, data ownership, and design by proxy, how can designers, architects, and urban stakeholders see eye to eye with our artificial counterparts?

Summary:
This book examines the notion of the home in the context of the pandemic and lockdown, as they relate to environmental concerns and how we live with viruses and bacteria. It argues that, in order to decrease our vulnerability to infective agents, we need to acknowledge the link between people, space, daily routines and microbes and explore how the predominantly benign microbial world might be harnessed to combat and boost our immunity to future pathogens. Suggesting more than environmental home improvements, it explores new innovations and new materials which incorporate microbes for more ecological designs, such as ceramic tiles, concrete bio-receptive surfaces, building skins, fabrics, waste management and alternative energy supplies.

Summary:
This volume documents and illustrates 60 projects, past and present, that key into a libertarian ethos and desire for diverse self-organised ways of building. They are what this book calls an ‘anarchist’ architecture, that is, forms of design and building that embrace the core values of traditional anarchist political theory since its divergence from the mainstream of socialist politics in the 19th century. These are autonomy, voluntary association, mutual aid, and self-organisation through direct democracy. As the book shows, there are a vast range of architectural projects that can been seen to reflect some or all of these values, whether they are acknowledged as specifically anarchist or otherwise.

Summary:
Working in rural China is unlike other countryside: it is full of contradiction, neither rural nor urban, both traditional and modern, abandoned in some areas and yet others are becoming cities overnight. It is in fact a laboratory for new ways of living. And it has become our laboratory for new ways of making architecture. Whereas contemporary architecture since the advent of modernism has developed increasingly controlled, prototypical, and standardized mechanisms for building, our experiments embrace the opposite: a lack of control, taking place within the flux of political, social and economic uncertainties. The experiments presented here are examples taken from a series of design and build projects conducted from the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong over the past 10 years. They are remarkable in their diffuse explorations and situations. Some were urgent post-earthquake reconstructions, often adapting to extreme topographies or taking place in the midst of major urbanizing transformations, whereas other experiments occurred in forgotten villages with left-behind craftspeople and their disappearing building cultures. These forays and what can be best described as adventures in building, left us with varied and novel (sometimes failed) experiments with structure and program. But they are presented here for the trait they have in common: an exploration of the limits of material, geometry, construction methods, and even historical context. As often occurs for architects working in a foreign landscape, the differences in language and culture have proven to be a source of constant miscommunication and surprising discovery. The lack of a common spoken language- these remote areas speak their own dialects- has placed an emphasis on drawing as another means of communication. Through drawing we have explored a means of design and a means of building. Therefore, this is also a book about ways of drawing that represent ways of control and, inversely perhaps, what not to control.

Summary:
Thousands of artefacts produced throughout the years—ideas, projects, exhibitions, events, reflections, publications, library, thousands of photographs, visual identity packs, call for proposals and testimonials were looked through and are now formed into four main chapters:1. Reflections, with contributions by Giovanna Borasi, Amica Dall, Marina Otero Verzier and Stojan Pelko, in a critical and political tone reflect on each year’s ideas submitted at the Calls for Ideas. Chapter 2. Charts give a visual representation of the vast data found in applied and selected ideas, while 3.Dossier takes the form of a statistical report that captures the sheer quantity, complexity and mathematically measurable success of the platform. The highlight of the book is the chapter 4. Collaborations. Here, the evolution from an Idea, through program to the outcome is presented, thus exposing mechanisms of collaboration, which resulted in the many events across Europe, be it an exhibition, publication, film, lecture series and more.
