Summary:
The photographs by Richard Misrach assembled in this volume are a stark, affecting reminders of the physical and psychological impact of Hurricane Katrina as told by those on the ground, and seen through the lens of a contemporary master. Rather than simply surveying the damage, Misrach-who has photographed the region regularly since the 1970s, most notably for his ongoing "Cancer Alley" project-found himself drawn to the hurricane-inspired graffiti. "Destroy This Memory" presents previously unpublished and starkly compelling material, all of which Misrach shot with his 4 MP pocket camera while also working on a separate archive of over 1,000 photographs with his 8 x 10 large-format camera. Created between October and December 2005, this series of images serves as a potent, unalloyed document of the raw experiences of those left to fend for themselves in the aftermath of Katrina. With no essay, titles or even page numbers in the way, the words on these homes, cars and trees offer a searing testament that continues to speak volumes.

Drawing on the rugged beauty of the city's natural surroundings for inspiration, Halprin created a signature landmark of sunken fountains, walls, and berms that served as an urban promenade and an oasis from the surrounding streets. This monograph honors the legacy of Halprin's original work by presenting the most complete documentation available of the park's conception, construction, and use before its total redesign in 2003. This first book on Halprin's modern landscape project features new photography, archival drawings, and original documentation.

Summary:

Summary:
Mies van der Rohe : A Critical Biography is a major rewriting and expansion of Franz Schulze’s acclaimed 1985 biography, the first full treatment of the architect. Co-authored with architect Edward Windhorst, this revised edition features new and extensive original research and commentary. Schulze and Windhorst trace Mies’s European career in its progression to avant-garde modernism — where his work was materially rich but of modest scale — to his second maturity and world renown in the United States, where he invented a new architectural language of “objective” structural expression.
