Summary:
Majestic and inspiring, there is nothing like the sight of a mountain on the horizon. Throughout all of human history mountains have been linked to the eternal, attracting us to their dizzying heights, stunning us with their natural beauty, and often threatening us with their dangers. Through a compelling journey to both real and imaginary peaks, this book explores how the mountain has figured in our history, culture, and maginations. Veronica della Dora explores the ways mountains have functioned spiritually as a boundary between life and death, a bridge between the earth and the heavens. Interlacing science, culture, and religion, she sketches the mountain as a geological phenomenon that has profoundly influenced and been influenced by the human imagination, shaping our environmental consciousness and helping us understand our—quite small indeed—place in the world. She also explores their significance as objects of human feats, as prizes of adventure and sport, and as places of serene beauty for vacationers. Magnificently illustrated and showcasing famous peaks from all around the world, Mountain offers a fascinating dual portrait of these giants in nature and culture.

Summary:
''Broken relations: infrastructure, aesthetic, and critique'' is a symptom and an outcome of a collectively experienced crisis — one that has produced a new, widespread sensorium for often invisible and overlooked infrastructures and highlighted their importance for all aspects of life, including politics, both local and global, and art and curatorial practices and their systemic analysis. The reader views infrastructures not only as material phenomena and physical networks but also as immaterial relations and symbolic actions, which, in visible and invisible ways, form our present and, hence, our horizon of aesthetic perception. The interplay between the material and ideological conditions of production, distribution, and presentation directs our gaze, schooled as it is in institutional critique, onto real and symbolic orders, sites, and economies. The book is based on a cooperation between the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna: this started in Leipzig in 2021 with the lecture series and exhibition ''Broken relations: infrastructure and interruption'' and continued in Vienna in 2022 with the exhibition ''Conditions and frameworks: infrastructure as form and medium'' and the conference ''Broken relations: infrastructure, aesthetics, and critique''.

Summary:
The works of the New York-based artist Vito Acconci are more often than not about creating a public defined via the body - from his radical performances at the beginning of the seventies to his unusual architectural designs since the establishment of the Acconci Studio at the end of the eighties. His work Courtyard in the Wind for the new building of the Technisches Rathaus in Munich, a building which houses the city´s architectural department, was the first permanent structure by Acconci to be realized in a public space: A revolving ring of landscape in the courtyard may be moved with the aid of the artist´s wind power plant located on top of the Rathaus tower. This title is the first to document this project by the artist and at the same time grants valuable insights into the paradigm of architectural designs by the Acconci Studio. The book also features texts by Vito Acconci about the body, architecture and public space. An instructive essay by Heinz Schütz reviewing Acconci's works from the last decades opens up the horizon against which Courtyard in the Wind is set.

Summary:
From its situation in Ancient Greece through the various rewritings and commentaries and interventions of the last 2500 years, there is certainly no book being transmitted in the anything-but-unbroken and often comic transmission of The Phaenomena, a long didactic poem enumerating the constellations and their movement through the skies. There is certainly no origin apparent in such a transmission, even as the layers of compaction that this text attempts to unfold are themselves arguments about origin, plaintive debates about the irresolvable contradiction of a “first copier.” But what does it mean to give up the constellation, the relation, the durability that relation promises to guarantee, without being able to retreat into the security of origin or determinate meaning? What do you do then? This is to rephrase the question: what do we – “we,” obstinately – fail to see when we see the shapes of the stars so well? Thee Display is a collection of poems written during an engagement with this ongoing transmission. It is a book about this, and a book about the horizon of communism, and a book about transition, and a book about a companionship characterized by a weird and sad kind of cheer.

Summary:
Over the past 25 years, Antony Gormley, perhaps Britain's best-known living sculptor, has revitalized the human image in sculpture. He won the 1994 Turner Prize and has had solo exhibitions at the Whitechapel, Tate, and Hayward galleries, White Cube and The British Museum, and internationally at the Corcoran Gallery, Documenta and the Venice Biennale. His radical investigations of the body as a place of memory and transformation use his own corpus as subject, tool and material. Conflating figure and ground, inside and outside, the physical and the psychological, Gormley explores complex relationships between the city, its architecture and its people. This richly illustrated catalogue is filled with new, never-before-seen sculptural works--a series of figures in light-infused webs of steel, and the monumental steel-block "Space Station," 20 feet high. Photographer Gautier Deblonde also chronicles a major new public project, "Event Horizon," which sites some 30 sculptures on buildings across central London, dramatically altering the city skyline. An in-depth interview with Gormley explores the development of his new work, as well as his relationship to the artists who have inspired him and to his contemporaries in the field of figurative sculpture.

Summary:

Summary:
''Formgiving : an architectural future history,'' the new book by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), is a visionary attempt to look at the horizon of time. With ''Formgiving,'' BIG presents the third part of its TASCHEN trilogy, which began with ''Yes is More,'' one of the most successful architectural books of its generation, and continued with ''Hot to Cold.'' The book is presented in a timeline, stretching from the Big Bang into the most distant future. Projects are structured around six strands of evolution- ''Making,'' ''Sensing,'' ''Sustaining,'' ''Thinking,'' ''Healing,'' and ''Moving''- the multimedia-based, interdisciplinary concepts encompassing the building industry. Culture, climate, and landscape, as well as all the energies derived from the elements- the thermal mass of the ocean, the dynamics of currents, the energy and warmth of the sun, the power of the wind- are incorporated into these projects. Throughout more than 700 pages, Bjarke Ingels presents his personal selection of projects, including the 12,000-square-meter LEGO House in Denmark, the human-made ecosystems floating on oceans, the redesign of a World War II bunker into a contemplative museum, and the ski slope-infused power plant celebrating Copenhagen’s commitment to carbon neutrality. Through architecture and design, BIG gives shape to a sustainable and simultaneously colorful world.
