Project
AP056.S1.1993.PR08
Description:
This project series documents a competition entry for the University of Waterloo Student Centre in Waterloo, Ontario in 1993. The project number assigned by the office is unidentifiable. This project proposed a two-storey building composed of rectangular spaces, a round central rotunda, four courtyards and terraces on the roof and sides. The building's exterior would be clad in split-faced limestone with a copper roof, wood doors and windows, and glazed walls comprising the top floor of the rotunda. Inside the rotunda would be cafe seating and information areas on the main floor and more casual reading and lounging spaces on the second level which were open to below. The main focus of the design was its relationship to the four courtyards, including a central courtyard at the building's centre that had bleachers overlooking it from above. Areas for a gym, bomb shelter and student government were also included. This was not the winning competition entry and the project was eventually realized by Cravit Ortved Architects. The project is recorded through drawings, presentation paintings, an aerial photograph and model dating from around 1993. The drawings are mostly originals of sketches, presentation drawings, plans, elevations and perspectives.

AP206.S1.1985.PR01
Description:
This project series documents the residence of Shri Chandra Prakash Gupta in Saharanpur, India in 1985. The project consisted of a two-storey home with a smaller third storey tower. The home had a dining room, kitchen, drawing room and bedrooms on the two first floors. On top of the smaller third storey tower was an upward facing water tank that resembled a large trough. An elaborate boundary wall surrounded the property and featured a tall, arched gate. This wall, coupled with a front door panelled with rosette designs and windows with patterned grills, gave the home a distinct exterior. The project is recorded through original drawings consisting of floor plans, elevations, sections, details and furnishing drawings, and photographs and negatives of the finished home, dating from on or around 1985.

AP207.S1.1985.PR01
Description:
The project series documents "Integrazioni" an installation by Pettena for the Expo Arte at the Galleria Megapoli in Bari in 1985. The installation consisted of a framed three dimensional 'picture' in which is placed two benches and a table, and perspective is added in with paint to give the impression of depth. "A picture that, for once, has a depth (so that you can enter it) is in fact a place, the place where names change, the place where natures change, the location of a shift between real and imaginary, a door opening onto a reality that is certainly imagined, but that you can pass through." [1] The project series contains sketches and photographs of the installation, and a leaflet from the Galleria Megapoli on the exhibition and the installations presented. AP179.S1
Description:
Series 1, Casa La Roca, Caracas, Venezuela, 1995 – 2001, documents the development of a project (unrealized) for a residential home situated among the hills at the southern edge of Caracas. The majority of records were produced between 1995 and 1997. The series consists of sketches, drawings and reprographic copies for the conceptual and design development phases of the project, a wood model and model pieces, photographs of the site, and textual records including correspondence and zoning records. The series also contains an oversized banner printed with an image of the model that was featured in the Fabrications exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1998, as well as plans for the show. The digital material in this series consists of an animated rendering of the brick patio wall and photographs of the physical drawings and the model for Casa La Roca. The name of the project, Casa la Roca (in English, “the rock house”), is derived from a large mass of rock that occupies the back of the property. The design utilizes the presence of the rock, in combination with sliding glass doors and windows, to create an “outdoor room” that functions both as a living space and back yard. The design also incorporates the nature of the site through the use of materials such as terracotta block, brick, and tile.
