Summary:
Carol Gilligan’s landmark book ''In a different voice'' – the ''little book that started a revolution'' – brought women’s voices to the fore in work on the self and moral development, enabling women to be heard in their own right, and with their own integrity, for the first time. Forty years later, Gilligan returns to the subject matter of her classic book, re-examining its central arguments and concerns from the vantage point of the present. Thanks to the work that she and others have done in recent decades, it is now possible to clarify and articulate what couldn’t quite be seen or said at the time of the original publication: that the ''different voice'' (of care ethics), although initially heard as a ''feminine'' voice, is in fact a human voice; that the voice it differs from is a patriarchal voice (bound to gender binaries and hierarchies); and that where patriarchy is in force or enforced, the human voice is a voice of resistance, and care ethics is an ethics of liberation. While gender is central to the story Gilligan tells, this is not a story about gender: it is a human story. With this clarification, it becomes evident why ''In a different voice'' continues to resonate strongly with people’s experience and, perhaps more crucially, why the different voice is a voice for the 21st century.

Summary:
The latest addition to the authoritative monograph series documenting each of Alvar Aalto's architectural projects focuses on the house Aalto and his second wife Elissa designed for the Parisian art dealer Louis Carré in the mid-1950s. This profusely illustrated volume describes the architecture of the building, the exceptional interiors and life in the house. It also includes a biographical sketch of Carré, who met Aalto at the opening of the pavilion Aalto had designed for the 1956 Venice Biennale. The friendship between Aalto, the radical experimenter, and Carré, the perfectionist patron of the arts, lasted the rest of their lives, and Maison LC became one of the most exceptional collaborations between architect and client ever built.

Summary:
This book brings together ideas and projects that seek to define a new role for design based on empathy. As a mediator of emotions and feelings, design is presented here as a practice that takes care as its main purpose. Designers adopt sensitive, diplomatic, sometimes therapeutic functions, with the aim of connecting us with one another but also with the world around us, with other species, with soil, water and even the universe. In this book, the reader will find new ideas, utopian propositions but also practical solutions for reinterpreting and reconnecting with the world around them.

Summary:
The work of Swedish architect Bernt Nyberg is featured in this monographic issue, which focuses especially on his formative projects from the 1960s and ’70s. A huge endeavour in the making, the research, documentation, and production of materials for this publication have lasted four years. Given the relatively unknown nature of Nyberg’s work, the narratives herein are derived from direct sources, either through archival research or interviews with the architect’s surviving collaborators. Matthew Hall headed the investigation into Nyberg’s currently endangered body of work in Sweden, which ranges from homes and row houses to administrative, care, and maintenance facilities.
