Summary:

Summary:
Call Ampersand Response is a collaborative artwork made of images exchanged via email. Over a period of several months, Dumontier and Lexier sustained an image-based correspondence by sending each other scans of book covers, found objects, drawings and illustrations belonging to each artist’s respective collection. The project is based on the idea that their collections speak of their shared artistic affinities while informing their practices. Two rules dictated their conduct : each image was to function as a “call” seeking a “response” from the other artist, and the dialogue was to end when an image recalling the project’s opening image emerged, thereby constituting a narrative loop. Their conversation gave rise to a bookwork co-edited by Nieves and Artexte.

Summary:

Studio Mumbai is composed of a few architects and nearly a hundred craftsmen– carpenters, masons, plumbers, electricians, and stonecutters– all working full time. Their work is based on a constant dialogue: “In India, a country with a population of 1,2 billion, the majority of construction is carried out without architects, which does not prevent them from being human in the largest sense. This reflection also forms part of one of our work’s most critical aspect…” reveals Bijoy Jain, the founder of Studio Mumbai. The Studio is a human infrastructure of skilled craftsmen and architects who design and build the work directly.

A group of friends is attempting to enter a garden just beyond a wall. When they succeed, the garden they finally enter is no Eden, but rather a massive landscape of machines, geometric forms and all manner of nonorganic objects. In Japanese comic-book artist Yuichi Yokoyama's newest and longest work, his characters become enmeshed in a fantastic wonderland of distorted mirrors, photographic equipment, massive libraries and complex pathways. To his signature vivid visual style, Yokoyama has added more dialogue than in past works, fleshing out the characters and allowing them equal billing with his spectacular architectural creations, thus yielding a reflection on the myriad ways human interact with the complex mechanical world we have created.

Summary:
Coming out of an international symposium at Germany's University of St. Gallen and Hamburg's Kampnagel Culture Factory in 2007, this book addresses the question of how art affects urban space. ParCITYpate is a departure for artists, curators and innovative minds in the urban and spatial realms far from the beaten path of art theory and urban political dialogue. Bringing together the perspectives of international urban researchers and social scientists with artists, art theorists and curators, this fertile collection offers new ideas on the effects of urban art projects and their interaction with urban culture, development, economics and politics. Beyond praise or criticism, artistic interventions take part in the production of city space by opening new possibilities for urban action.

Summary:
Melvin Charney (1935-2012) spent his career working on the border between art and architecture. His internationally celebrated art employed a variety of media including photography, montage, painting, sculpture, and temporary and permanent installations, relentlessly pursuing the meaning of architectural images in the age of mass communication. This volume includes a visual archive of over three hundred illustrations, many of which served as source material and inspiration for Charney's work, and set up a dialogue between his criticism and his landmark projects. Essays from architectural scholars provide critical assessments of Charney’s body of work as well as new perspectives on many of the key issues he grappled with and that have transformed architecture since the 1960s.
