Summary:
"Trading Places" rethinks, develops, and tests design-driven practices and methods to engage with participation in public space and public issues. With this book we aim to help art and design researchers, students, practitioners, and the multiple stakeholders they collaborate with, to explore what participatory ways of working in our contemporary urban environment entail. Six approaches are discussed: intervention, performative mapping, play, data mining, modelling in dialogue, and curating. Each approach offers a different kind of logic and produces a different type of knowledge. "Trading Places" invites the reader to discover common ground, explore new territories, and exchange points of view – in short, to trade perspectives on issues of participation.

Summary:
This illustrated work reflects on the cultural implications of smoking, and suggests, through a series of brilliantly inventive illustrations, that society's attitude to smoke is both paradoxical and intolerant. It portrays a world in which smokers, banished from public places, must encounter one another as outlaws. Meanwhile, car exhausts and factory chimneys continue to pollute the atmosphere. Smoke is a beautifully illustrated prose poem that lingers in the mind. "A cigarette is a breathing space. It makes a parenthesis. The time of a cigarette is a parenthesis, and if it is shared you are both in that parenthesis. It's like a proscenium arch for a dialogue." - John Berger (in interview)

Summary:

Summary:
From their Dublin-based studio, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara – Grafton Architects – rethink urban landscapes and study the relevance of contemporary architecture. Over more than forty years of practice, the studio has completed, in Ireland and internationally, a body of work that has merited the most prestigious architectural distinctions. Coherent and essential, bold and vigorous, the buildings by Grafton Architects are born of critical reflection and sensitive dialogue with the existing context. This approach is reflected in the sixteen works and projects included in this monograph, organized into four sections and preceded by a text in which the architects themselves express their interests and concerns.

Summary:
Humanity has always excluded Others on the basis of race and gender. What happens to people who choose to flee, following in the footsteps of those who resisted enslavement? This audacious manifesto draws on the legacies of bell hooks, Audre Lorde, Angela Davis and others to consider the ways in which Black women have been excluded from, struggled to achieve and opted to reject the category of ‘human’. Sociologist Akwugo Emejulu argues that it is only through embracing the status of the ‘fugitive’ that Black women can determine their own liberation. ''Fugitive Feminism'' is a call for the collective process of speculative dialogue and a bold new model for action.

Summary:
Workers are not doomed to be merely the victims of environmental devastation. As Lorenzo Feltrin shows, they can be key actors in preventing it. Because labour supports an unsustainable system of endless growth, it holds a central place in any strategy for our long-term survival. Bringing Italian workerist theory into dialogue with a range of traditions from dependency theory to ecofeminism, Feltrin examines the intersection of labour and nature across the globe. By addressing several urgent dimensions of the ecological crisis, such as automation, precarious employment, imperialism and social reproduction, he offers a new framework for understanding how labour struggles and environmental justice are intertwined.

Summary:
"Architecture of invention" explores the experimental side of architecture through an architecture of books. It brings together ten experimental bibliographies conceived as a dialogue between expanded, spatial art and a critical, relational architecture that reflects on its own status. An intertextual and generative framework structures the project, producing narratives and cross-references among books and publications that are not necessarily contemporaneous or disciplinary. The ordering maps multiple cultural trajectories along a non-linear timeline marked by epochal leaps, ranging from avant-garde architecture to conceptual, radical, experimental and hardcore architecture. These constellations address themes such as construction and deconstruction, image and media, the body, the city, crisis, and critical practice.
