AP178.S1.1980.PR01
Description:
This project series document the Sede da Companhia Dom in Cologne, Germany. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 1/80. The office assigned the date 1980 to this project. The project files document Siza's design for DOM company headquarter's architectural competition. Fifty architects were selected by a jury to propose a design. The client underlined the importance of having a striking visual impact while also putting emphasis on precision, security, protection and technological advancement. Requirements for the building included enough space for 250 employees and a covered parking lot for 50 vehicles. Siza's proposed design was a cylindrical inclined building with a cylindrical hole through the center. A circulation system with elevators, stairs and ramps inside and outside the office spaces was designed to create a " complex promenade architecturale"[1] . Siza's entry was not selected. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, design development drawings and competition drawings. Textual materials include competiton documentation. Of particular interest in this project series are the first computer drawings and coordinates used by Siza' office. [1] : Peter Testa "Álvaro Siza, " Birkhäuser Verlag, 1996.

Description:
This project series documents the federal women's prison in Kitchener, Ontario, now called The Grand Valley Institution for Women, from 1992-1994. The office identified the project number as 9227. This project, built for Public Works Canada and Correctional Services Canada, consisted of a large, main prison building with nine small cottages lining the property. The main building included the admission and discharge area, food services, recreation spaces and spirituality centre, as well as an area for prisoners requiring enhanced security. The spirituality room was a window-rimmed rotunda that pierced the slanted roof of the main stucco building. The smaller cottages were wood-sided with aluminum windows and could house eight people. While many were built to house eight prisoners, some designs replaced prisoner's rooms with children's bedrooms for inmates who had children staying with them. There was also a large, green space in the centre of all the buildings, with plans to build a baseball diamond, daycare building and an additional cottage in the future. The project is recorded through drawings dating from1992-1995. The drawings and mostly originals and include site surveys, sketches, plans, elevations, sections, perspectives, details and axonometric drawings.

AP149.S1.2004.PR01
Description:
The project series documents Minimum Cost Housing Group's project of research, design and construction to demonstrate the benefits of urban agriculture as a permanent feature in housing design and urban planning. A first phase of the project, from 2004 to 2007, the study project took place in developping countries in three diffrent sites: Colombo, Sri Lanka; Rosario, Argentina; and Kampala, Uganda. The project was funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and supported by the ETC-Urban Agriculture Unit in the Netherlands and the Resource centres on Urban Agriculture and Food Security (RUAF). In 2007, a second phase of the project had for objective to implement an urban agriculture production in Montréal. The Minimum Cost Housing Group team created, on McGill Campus, a vegetable garden on the terrace of a parking garage. The project is now known as "Making Edible Campus" and is still on-going. The material in this project series was produced between 2003 and 2010. The project series contains a large collection of working documents and reports submitted to funding institutions, correspondence with collaborators on the three sites, and also photographss of the project in Colombo, Kampala, Rosario sites. Also included are various artefacts related to the sites in the three developping countries and a board game "Gardenpoly" created by the Urban Agriculture seminar students on urban agriculture in Montréal. Promotional panels for the Making Edible Campus are also included.
