DR1988:0361
Description:
- This drawing shows a design for improvements to a townhouse garden, including garden walls, bath and fountain. Plant species are also identified. - The style of many of these drawings and reprographic copies by Henry Hyams (DR1988:0332 - DR1988:0414) suggests that they were possibly for periodical illustrations. Hyams contributed articles to the periodicals 'The Builder' and 'The Architect'. Two objects in the CCA collections can be linked to the article "Music in Stone" published prior to 1926 in 'The Architect'; a reprographic copy (DR1988:0357) and a drawing (DR1988:0364) (Who's Who in Architecture, 161).

DR1980:0060:001
Description:
- This perspective drawing, with the plans for the first (DR1980:0060:002) and second (DR1980:0060:003) floors, form a set of early presentation drawings. According to David De Long, the scale is probably 1/4" = 1' (see object file). The house is presented as if seen from behind a window across the street. De Long also notes that this drawing does not show the low wall and the garden court indicated in the plans shown in Hitchcock; that the CCA drawing portrays a less cubic house than the photograph of the building in Hitchcock due to the former's higher point of view; and that the front windows in the drawing extend down to a sill slightly higher than that which supports the plants whereas they stop short of halfway down to the "plant" sill in the finished house.

The lawn area includes a play space with logs, rocks, climbing trees and a loghouse situated at the southwest corner of the playground. The project series contains landscape sketches, design development drawings, landscape plan for the proposal playground, and a presentation panel. The project is also documented through textual records, such as correspondence, research material and press clipping on the school.

Description:
This project series documents Cornelie Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for the University of British Columbia's Faculty Club, a social club providing accomodation and recreation for members of the Society, in Vancouver. The Faculty Club is located on the northern edge of the University of British Columbia's campus and overlook the Burrard Inlet and the North Shore Mountains. Oberlander worked on this project from 1956-1959 with architect Fred Lasserre and later architect Arthur Erickson in 1963. During the first phase of the construction in 1956, Oberlander designed the parking area, the upper terrace, and garden with a water feature of water cascading into a series of square basins. For the second phase of the design, Oberlander worked with architect Arthur Erickson, who connected the water feature to a larger pool situated next to a new pavilion. In 2008, the Faculty Club was converted into classrooms and Oberlander was hired to revitalise the planting areas around the club. The project series contains sketches for the upper terrace, design development drawings, including landscape plans, grading plans and planting plans, presentation drawings and working drawings, including building plans used for reference. The project series also includes photographs.

She also designed play scultpures for small children. The project series contains design development drawings, including landscape plans and planting plans, working drawings, including a site plan and planting plans, a specifications addendum, an invitation to the official inauguration of the project, and photographs, which are mostly of the construction site. Ahmedabad House
AP182.S1.2012.D1
Description:
File documents an executed project for a private residence in Ahmedabad, India. The house is constructed of concrete and earthen bricks, which were made on site and pressed from the dry earth excavated to lay the foundation. Courtyards act as semipublic "interior" zones and generate much-needed shade in the hot, dry climate. A pool lined in green marble provides additional passive cooling, and local trees planted around the house will also retain water as they grow. File contains photographs, models, and a video recording.
