Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for the Canadian Chancery on Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington D.C. Oberlander worked in this project from 1983-1989 with architect Arthur Erickson. Oberlander and Erickson received the National Landscape Award for the project landscape design. The design included a paved courtyard accessible through Pennsylvania Avenue and John Marshall Place Park. Oberlanded connected the park, designed by landscape architect Carol L. Johnson in 1983, to the Chancery site by adding a paving area in place of the closed street separating the two blocks. A terraced façade featuring a hanging garden with trees and roses was design as a way of extending the John Marshall Park up to the roof of the building. The project series contains sketches and working drawings for the landscaping, including planting plans, irrigation plans, planters details, sections and planters irrigation plans, and architectural plans provided for reference use. It also contains photographs of the building and the courtyard landscaping. The project is also documented through textual records, including concept notes by Oberlander, correspondence with clients, architects, suppliers and consultants, specifications, meetings notes, financial documents, promotional material and articles on the project. Description:
File documents an executed project for a parish house and cloister and for parking and planting for the Wayfarers' Chapel. The project for the Parish House and Cloister was part of the 1947 conception ffor the Chapel and was the third unit of construction, after the chapel proper and the campanile. In its conception, this project consisted of a cloister, cloister garden, and a community house, later renamed the parish house. The concept as it was developed between 1954 and 1957 resulted in the construction of the parish house and cloister; the cloister garden was developed separately at a later date, ca. 1959 (DR1987:0698). Material in the file was produced between 1953 and 1959. File contains conceptual, design and design development drawings with a few presentation and technical drawings.

Description:
The project series documents "Achipensierio" a series of installations designed by Pettena from 2001 to 2018. The installation consists of variations of a building frame either made of metal beams or trellis covered in plants or straw. The building frame is designed to change form and appears deconstructed depending on the point of view. "Described by Gianni Pettena as “a contemporary Stonehenge,” but also as “a lesson in spatial perception,” this work metaphorically reaffirms the idea that there are no longer any frontiers today, when one is referring to themes relating to physical space, between the sensibility of the architect and that of the environmental artist." [1] The "Archipensierio" installations were presented in various venues from 2001 to 2018, including: "Archipensierio 2" at the Manifesta 7 in Rovereto, in 2008; "Archipensierio 5" at the Court Carrée du Louvre, in Parigi, for FIAC 2009; and "Archipensierio 6" at the UMOCA, in Salt Lake City, in 2013. The project series contains sketches, elevations, plans, drawings and photographs of the installations. It also includes a small model for the Archipensierio I, 2001 installation.
