Description:
This project series documents the construction of the Victoria and Grey Trust Company office in Stratford, Ontario from 1981-1984. The office identified the project number as 8116. This project consisted of an office building and computer center to be the new head office of Victoria and Grey Trust Company. Originally, the building was proposed as an eleven-storey office tower, but eventually the design was scaled back to five storeys with a basement and penthouse. Once construction commenced, the building became even shorter and included a parking garage. The building was located at 60 Erie Street. This project documents only the construction of this office building; the design was completed under a different project number assigned by the office (see project series AP018.S1.1980.PR14 in this fonds). The project is recorded through drawings, photographic materials and textual records dating from 1981-1984. The drawings are mostly reprographic copies arranged within the textual materials. There are some original detail drawings arranged within the textual materials. Some drawings were produced by architecture firm Routhwaite and Fairfield. The photographic materials show the construction progress of the project. The textual records consist of correspondence, conference and site reports, authority and detail documentation, financial documents, supplementary instructions, change orders and specifications.

This project series documents the construction of the Victoria and Grey Trust Company office in Stratford, Ontario from 1981-1984. The office identified the project number as 8116. Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for the Environmental Science Building and Walter Ward Garden on West Bank Drive at Trent University, in Peterborough, Ontario. Oberlander worked on this project in 1989 with Richard Henriquez Architect and Laszlo Nemeth Associates who won the design competition for the new campus building. The project consists in an environmental garden with native plants and grasses and a landscaped roof linked to the ground level by a ramp covered in earth. The ramp and the green roof were design not for human but to give a refuge to ground hogs displaced by the construction of the building. The Environmental Science Building opened in 1991 while the garden was officially opened in 1992. The project series contains site plans, sketches, design developement drawings, including planting plans, landscape sections and details, working drawings, presentation drawings, including perspective drawings, and presentation panels. The project series also comprises working drawings of the building used as reference by Oberlander. The project is also documents through photographs of the construction of the building and the site work, concept notes by Oberlander, correspondence with clients, architects and consultants, specifications, including landscape specifications, plants selection documents, financial documents, reseach materials, and clippings of articles on the project.

This project series documents additions and alterations to the McCutcheon Residence in Gormley, Ontario (now Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario) from 1981-1982. The office identified the project number as 8112. This project consisted primarily of a large addition onto the east side of the existing brick house. The first part of the addition, attached directly onto the existing house, was two storeys to match the original, and contained the master bedroom and sitting room on the second floor, a large kitchen with walk-in pantry and dining area on the main floor, and storage in the basement. The second part of the addition ran perpendicular to the rest of the house, attached to the new kitchen, and was one storey. It contained the staff quarters at the front of the house, and two garages at the back, including one for skidoos and tractors. Alterations to the current home were also made, including the removal of the patio at the back of the home and of the walls that enclosed the existing pool and kitchen. The addition used similar materials to the existing home, which included cedar shingles, brick walls, and copper roofing over the windows. The project is recorded through drawings, photographic materials and textual records dating from 1981-1982. The drawings consist of sketches, floor and site plans, elevations, sections, and mechanical, electrical and structural drawings. Drawings of the existing home are also present. The photographs are of aerial views of the house and surrounding area and textual records consist of contractor documentation.

This project series documents the demolition of two buildings for the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto from 1973-1974. The office identified the project number as 7304. This project consisted of the demolition of 246 and 248 Simcoe Street, two buildings next to the Art Gallery of Ontario. The buildings were demolished to make space for a new parking lot. Beginning in 1969, Parkin’s firm was hired as the head architects for the AGO’s massive expansion program that would span more than a decade. This is one project relating to the expansion of the art gallery. It should be noted that while AGO project contracts were originally given to John B. Parkin Associates, John C. Parkin continued the project under his new firm, Parkin Architects Planners, after parting ways with partner John B. Parkin in 1971. The project is recorded through textual records consisting of specifications, financial records, correspondence, inspection reports, and office drawing transmittal forms dating from 1973-1974.
