A Cry Was Heard," for example, a large painting depicting letters bisected by a white sash provides the dialogue of the lead actress, who recites its jumble of letters as if it were ordinary conversation. His drawings were often generated by geometric erasures of found text, leaving behind Concrete-style abstract patterns. A formative figure for Mike Kelley and Paul McCarthy during his tenure at the Otis Art institute, de Cointet is today in the process of being rediscovered; this timely monograph is the first overview of his enigmatic and influential oeuvre.

For six months, an exhibition analyzed the characteristics, differences and causes of informal settlements, developing six workshops in the field in different favelas of São Paulo and organizing size encounters that made São Paulo the world capital of the debate on transformation of contemporary cities.

Beginning with the Milano: Ritratti di fabbriche cycle from the late 1970s, this book follows the evolution of Basilico’s artistic language from his legendary pictures taken in France and in major ports across Europe in the 1980s to the 1991 series devoted to Beirut, which had just left behind its long civil war, up to his final work on the renewal of the Porta Nuova district in Milan. The main core of works in this publication consists of the fifty portraits of cities which the artist took over the course of his career: Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Moscow, San Francisco, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, and Shanghai intermingle and dialogue through Basilico’s impassioned and contemplative gaze. L'Association des Maires de France, Archinov, l'Union sociale pour l'habitat et l'Union Nationale des Syndicats Français d'Architectes ont décidé d'unir leurs forces pour élaborer cet ouvrage collectif pédagogique. Nous avons choisi de montrer quelques réalisations exemplaires qui s'inscrivent dans des contextes variés, village, habitat pavillonnaire, faubourg ou centre-ville. Certaines revisitent avec bonheur les expérimentations d'habitat intermédiaire des années 1970, d'autres s'inspirent du bourg ancien, d'autres encore redonnent une nouvelle vie à un patrimoine délaissé. Toutes placent l'habitant au cœur d'une démarche citoyenne et l'envisagent dans toutes ses dimensions (résident, piéton, promeneur, cycliste, automobiliste). Toutes apportent un soin particulier au traitement des lieux publics, à la place de la voiture, aux espaces de transition entre le public et le privé, aux prolongements immédiats du logement. Toutes favorisent les échanges et la convivialité par des cheminements et des lieux de rencontre. Nous avons souhaité faire de cet ouvrage, un outil pratique favorisant le dialogue entre tous les acteurs du cadre de vie afin de répondre autant aux désirs des habitants qu'aux préoccupations environnementales.

In this first of four volumes, Ruwedel follows the Los Angeles River from Big Tujunga Wash to the Pacific Ocean. Using patient, forensic large- and medium-format photography in black and white, Ruwedel recalls the legacy of nineteenth-century photographer-cartographers such as Carleton Watkins and Timothy O’Sullivan, as well as land artists and New Topographics photographers of the 1970s, while forging his own elucidating relationship with the landscape. The series title "Landscapes of four ecologies" recalls architectural critic Reyner Baynam classic study "Los Angeles: The architecture of four ecologies," which describes the city as "one of the ecological wonders of the modern world."
