Summary:
"What to let go?" offers new contributions by and international roster of thinkers, authors, anthropologists, curators, artists, and poets addressing the question: what gets counted within the category of heritage, and who gets to do the counting? Addressing the increasing debate around repatriation of looted artefacts by colonial powers to the varied and dissimilar processes of renaming and removing symbols of past eras, from India and Myanmar to Apartheid South Africa, the book will also look at how China's resurgent nationalism is placing a (still developing) version of its imperial heritage at the core of its twenty-first century self-image. As these processes appear to occupy an increasingly prominent segment of the political discourse, with history seemingly becoming the major battlefield both for the left and for the right, "What to let go?" asks: how can art reconfigure our collective foundational myths?

Summary:
This young German architect contributes to the current debate in modern architecture with his innovative designs. André Poitiers' adventure in design has been one of experimentation, an experimentation in which he has pursued difficult objectives and pushed himself to the edge of known territory. The expertise is there, acquired in the studio of Norman Foster, but his dream has invaded the territory of architecture and generated intentionally provocative figures. Poitiers picked his own, original way, driven by futuristic and iconoclastic impetus. Technology and New Pop seem to have been the hardware and software of his path. The most recent goal on Poitiers' journey is Plasma, the liquid, organic and living material, liable to alter in relation to functional and environmental factors. Poitiers' unusual and individual approach to designing is reflected in the graphics and presentation of the book.

For a number of years, modular construction - the use of prefabricated elements in architecture - has once again become a subject of lively discussion and debate. Long written off as monotonous, today's building components are actually highly differenciated and capable of supporting and enhancing the architect's creativity. Numerous structures work with prefabricated components and modular systems are available the meet high aesthetic standards. This book provide an overview of the various systems and their possible applications, particularly in the areas of housing, office, and industrial buildings. It explains the processes and components of modular construction and documents examples of best practice. The authors offer strategies for planning and designing with prefabricated systems so that the architect can use them productively. Numerous drawings explain the principles of modular construction, while built projects forge a link between those principles and the practical activity of building.

Summary:
''The Right to Nature'' is a new chapter of reflection and work of the AG greenscape, centered on the current and renewed relationship between man and nature, and the consequent transformation of our cities through new ways of living, inhabiting, working with nature and the landscape as the protagonist, in every area, at all project scales, as a social balancer and activator of a new urban sociality. The relationship between man and nature today is an urgent issue in the debate on the contemporary city, but it still has to be truly explored, defined, and built. Throughout seven main topics – Green and blue infrastructures, Regeneration, Public space, Dwelling, Green welfare, Heritage, and Care –, the book explores contemporary urban landscape issues at the different scales of the project, in the light of the relationship between human beings and nature.

Summary:
This pioneering volume explores the Arctic as an important and highly endangered archive of knowledge about natural as well as human history of the Anthropocene. Focusing on the Arctic as an archive means not only to investigate it as a place of human history and memory—of Arctic exploring, conquering, and colonizing—but to take into account also the specific environmental conditions of the circumpolar region: ice and permafrost. These have allowed a huge natural archive to emerge, offering rich sources for natural scientists and historians alike. Examining the debate on the notion of ('natural') archive, the cultural semantics and historicity of the meaning of concepts like 'warm,' 'cold,' 'freezing,' and 'melting,' as well as various works of literature, art, and science on Arctic topics, this volume brings together literary scholars, historians of knowledge and philosophy, art historians, media theorists, and archivologists.

Summary:
Philipp Schaerer's works are the outcome of a skillful amalgamation of photographic knowledge, compositional skills, digital craftsmanship, and the specificities of architectural practice. His imaged architectures do not correspond with actual buildings but instead both challenge the role of the photograph as documentary evidence and, equally, critique how architecture is consumed today. When first released in 2010 in German and French, this book was the only comprehensive presentation of Philipp Schaerer's work available. And while the perpetual development of information technology and digital photography is continuously rebalancing the relationship between architecture and its visual representation, the architect's synthetic images continue to occupy a relevant position within this debate. The Bildbauten series, assembled here in its original twenty-four plates and extended by eight additional new works, speaks a powerful visual language that transcends the barriers of any written text.
