Summary:
Observatorium is a unique consortium of three artists that has developed a philosophy and a working procedure that aims to make the grey areas and interfaces of architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and art more productive. Instead of creating autonomous art in public space, the group uses the media of sculpture and installation to make functional facilities that are monumental, symbolic and meaningful. This publication is at once an overview and an outcome of their design philosophy, and is accompanied by photographs, drawings and narratives, along with a complete list of their works produced to date.

Summary:
Born as a vehicle for national propaganda, the art biennial today has become an outsize phenomenon mobilizing not only artists, curators and gallerists but sponsors, celebrities and politicians, commanding huge press attention and deciding the careers of artists worldwide. For a city to host a biennial today has colossal ramifications. This anthology on the art biennial gathers previously published seminal texts from around the world alongside commissioned contributions from the leading scholars, curators, critics and thinkers today--among them Carlos Basualdo, Daniel Buren, John Clark, Okwui Enwezor, Bruce Ferguson, Milena Hoegsberg, Ranjit Hoskote, Caroline A. Jones, Jakouba Konaté, Gerardo Mosquera and Rafal Niemojewski. Tracing the genealogy of the standard exhibition format and examining some of the most famous examples of the twentieth and twenty-first century this reader explores the artistic, theoretical, and political ambitions of such large-scale exhibition projects.

Summary:
Outlining the evolution of applied art and design in Finland, from origins in the late 19th century to the outset of the 21st, this study by Pekka Korenmaa pinpoints the main underlying factors behind Finnish design today and shows how these have become an integral aspect of the country’s identity, economy and international image. From industry to culture, and training and education to designers and products, it thoroughly demonstrates how design has historically operated in the tension between art and industry, both serving and enhancing everyday life. Numerous photos, posters and illustrations portray every imaginable aspect of the rich diversity found in Finnish design.

Summary:
Contemporary Research Intensive was an event organised in the context of the 57th Venice Art Biennale to investigate the concept of 'contemporaneity'. Gathering together artists / curators / researchers through an open call, we asked how the temporal complexity that follows from the coming together of different temporalities in the same present could be made known in the context of contemporary art research, and particularly through practices that involve exhibitionary forms. The book is both part and result of the intensive sharing of ideas to produce something that captures the spirit of both discussions at that time and the publication process as a temporal form.
