Summary:
Bridging the domains of urban design, infrastructure, landscape, and architecture, AGPS architecture approaches problem solving as a collaborative enterprise, exploring the relationship between idea and practice and emphasizing the importance of the functional, technical, economic, environmental, and aesthetic in design and construction methods. This publication is the first comprehensive survey of the projects imagined and completed by AGPS architecture. Complete with color photographs of each of the projects, floor plans, sections, and elevations, as well as several essays that delve into frequently overlooked aspects of architectural design, this volume serves as both a portfolio and a sort of exploration of latent, but recognizable traits that are as much a part of the buildings as their physical manifestation.

Summary:
Sidewalk Salon is a multidisciplinary exploration of Cairo's dynamic urban spaces as portrayed by its thousands of street chairs, local fiction, interviews and poetry. The images, gathered over three years and organized into two sections - walks and series - document the creativity and small improvisations that give Cairo its distinctive character and identity. Strictly speaking, the book is a photographic essay of original chairs, but in a larger sense it reveals the material and human dimensions of the vibrant and extemporaneous layer that exists between this city's buildings and its streets. In addition to over 400 Polaroid images, the publication features fiction and poetry commissioned from Egyptian writers, plus interviews with street chair owners.

Summary:
Rocks and mountains have withstood aeons of life on our planet - gradually eroding, shifting, solidifying, and weathering. We might spend a little less time on earth, but humans are also weathering: evolving and changing as we're transformed by the shifting climates of our lives and experiences. So, what might these ancient natural forms have to teach us about resilience(...)

Rocks and mountains have withstood aeons of life on our planet - gradually eroding, shifting, solidifying, and weathering. We might spend a little less time on earth, but humans are also weathering: evolving and changing as we're transformed by the shifting climates of our lives and experiences. So, what might these ancient natural forms have to teach us about resilience and change? In a stunning exploration of our own connection to these enduring forms, outdoor psychotherapist and geologist Ruth Allen takes us on a journey through deep time and ancient landscapes, showing how geology - which has formed the bedrock of her own adult life and approach to therapy - can offer us a new way of thinking about our own grief, change and boundaries.

"Keep moving" is an artist’s book by Hamish Fulton, the British "walking artist." At the core of Fulton’s practice are the experiences he accumulates during his perambulations, which he records in photographs, pictograms, and texts. The exploration of self and the encounter with nature become one and the same. "Keep moving" resulted from a period of time the artist spent in the Corvara region of the Dolomites in the summer of 2004, during which he went on eight day-long walks and a guided climb, using a small mountain hut as his base. Contributing an essay here is legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner, with whom Fulton hiked the imagined trail followed by Ötzi the Iceman, whose 5,000-year-old skeleton was recently discovered in the South Tyrol.

Graziani is a collector of objects, not a storyteller. With the meticulous eye of an archivist, he detaches things from their context, revealing them to us. Whether the object of his photographic exploration is a stack of aluminum profiles, a mock-up of a window section, or an artwork, it is “objectified” in the same way, contributing portrait and to question Finstral‘s production facilities as well as the idea of the window itself. The fact that it is shown primarily through its form, independent of its function, gives it a sculptural quality. Picture Window Frame is a book designed by Giulia Cordin and a traveling show with the exhibition design by Brussel architectural firm Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen.

Summary:
This volume presents 155 photographs spanning 60 years of the artist’s exploration of the built environment in the American social landscape. Collectively these photographs add to one of the broadest and most nuanced visual explorations of America, and, individually, they are filled with the kind of intellectual humor and observation for which Friedlander has become celebrated. Along the way, of course, Friedlander has expanded our ideas of what constitutes real estate, just as he continues to compel us to reconsider how photography reveals essential aspects of our lives over time. The mirror that Lee Friedlander holds up to us is his mirror and everything reflected in it has the common traits of his way of seeing—each picture is definitively a Friedlander picture.

Summary:
DMJournal–Architecture and Representation is a new publication dedicated to the exploration of practices, histories and material cultures of drawing in architecture and related fields. ''In addressing this inaugural issue of Drawing Matter Journal to the 'geological imagination', we aimed to investigate the imbrication of thinking in architecture and art with matters of the earth, and to explore the kinds of graphic inscription to which this has given rise. Moreover, in doing so we wanted to attend to the much-debated concept of the Anthropocene and the way it has both given a new centrality to geology in critical cultural discourses and led to different kinds of questions being addressed to historical materials. This is evident in various ways across the contributions to this issue.''
