AP056.S1.1995.PR06
Description:
This project series documents renovations to the concert hall of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto from 1995-1996. The office identified the project number as 9512. This project consisted of restauration work and renovations to the existing Castle Memorial Hall, part of the music school originally built in 1901, now renamed the Ettore Mazzoleni Concert Hall. This project was part of a larger master plan, created by KPMB in 1991 under the direction of Marianne McKenna, that outlined multiple phases of renovations and additions to the school (see file AP056.S1.1991.PR07.010 for complete master plan). The restauration work included opening bricked-over windows, removing paint and acoustic panels, and opening the original stair tower. Renovations included the addition of a curved mahogany stage, new maple floors and new acoustic controls. The 6,000 square foot performance venue held 240 seats.[1] The project is recorded through drawings and a presentation painting dating from 1994-1997. The drawings include plans, sections, elevations, details and millwork and furnishings drawings. [1]"Royal Conservatory / Ettore Mazzoleni Hall." KPMB. Accessed March 15, 2019. http://107.23.26.92/project/royal-conservatory-ettore-mazzoleni-hall/.

Project
AP018.S1.1979.PR11
Description:
This project series documents long-term planning for airports in Trinidad and Tobago from 1979-1993. The office identified the project number as 7911. This project consisted of the planning of two airports, one in Piarco and the other in Crown Point, financed by the Government of Canada acting as agents for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. This work was undertaken as a consortium with other Canadian firms who worked together on airport planning projects around the world. The firms consisted of Parkin Architects Planners as the architects, the Montreal Engineering Company Limited, Peat, Marwick and Partners, and IBI Group. At Crown Point, a new 3,300 square metre terminal building was proposed for domestic and some international traffic, as well as a new control tower. The passenger terminal could accommodate 350 enplaning and 350 deplaning passengers. This first phase was said to accommodate growth until 1993. At Piarco, a new 26,000 square foot passenger terminal was proposed, which was said to accommodate about 2/3 of traffic in 1993. This location also proposed a 200 room hotel be built in the future. This project is recorded through textual records dating from 1977-1981 which consist of correspondence between consortium members, billings, the joint venture agreement and financial analysis report.

Description:
This project series documents the construction of the Victoria and Grey Trust Company office in Stratford, Ontario from 1981-1984. The office identified the project number as 8116. This project consisted of an office building and computer center to be the new head office of Victoria and Grey Trust Company. Originally, the building was proposed as an eleven-storey office tower, but eventually the design was scaled back to five storeys with a basement and penthouse. Once construction commenced, the building became even shorter and included a parking garage. The building was located at 60 Erie Street. This project documents only the construction of this office building; the design was completed under a different project number assigned by the office (see project series AP018.S1.1980.PR14 in this fonds). The project is recorded through drawings, photographic materials and textual records dating from 1981-1984. The drawings are mostly reprographic copies arranged within the textual materials. There are some original detail drawings arranged within the textual materials. Some drawings were produced by architecture firm Routhwaite and Fairfield. The photographic materials show the construction progress of the project. The textual records consist of correspondence, conference and site reports, authority and detail documentation, financial documents, supplementary instructions, change orders and specifications.

Description:
The project series documents the renovation of the Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) tower in Geneva, Switzerland. There were two competition finalists: Abalos & Herreros received the second phase of the project which was not realised. The firm identified this project as number 197. "The project approaches the two presented problems in a single way: the image change of the existing complex and the extension of the floor area at the roof top. […] [A] single type of curtain wall has been developed with windows of reasonable shape and format which curve at the top floor to take advantage of the maximum volume allowed by local building laws, generating an image of the building which is completely different than the actual one. The use of silk printed glass in the whole building, with motives from plants, creates an impression from the interior to be situated in a garden. At the same time the exterior appearance underlines the building’s singularity at the pedestrian level. […] The created extension of the building has a trae [sic] singular shape which one day could host a possible showroom or multifunctional rooms or as executive floor.” (ARCH270975) Abalos & Herreros worked with Blaise Sahy. Documenting the project are conceptual, design development, presentation and working drawings, digital, graphic, presentation and reference materials, correspondence, notes, and a model.
