Summary:
ROAM is an unconventional academic reader, looking at 'the Aesthetics of Mobility'. Under five themes - narrative, representation, glocalisation, telematics, velocity - ideas around what it is to 'roam' are explored, from theoritical texts to magazine style snippets of information. Against an architectural understanding of urban spaces and mobility. ROAM also engages with discourses from art, cultural studies, design and politics. In line with its unconventional approach, the texts in ROAM are designed to be read at different speeds, so that design projects are interspliced amongst essays and soundbites, provoking the reader with new views about our increasingly mobilised society.

Summary:
Between 1999 and 2001, small old-fashioned landscapes painstakingly painted in oil started appearing on graffiti sites in New York City. The paintings were the work of artist Ellen Harvey. Documented here are both the works and Harvey's diary-like experiences of painting illegally throughout the city. The narrative of her "beautification project" is both provocative and hilarious. It touches on serious issues, such as who is allowed to make art in our society and what distinguishes art from graffiti, while never losing touch with the frequently comical reality of creating a contemporary art project on the streets of New York.

Summary:
'Abitata pietra' (lived-in stone) is a publishing project by Antonio Cammareri, Stefania D’Amato, and Luogo Comune. It is an intense investigation, a graphic and geographical visual narration, a landscape of signs, a collection of illustrations that analyse particular and global elements, fragments and entities, in an attempt to define the rupestrian landscape that connects the italian territories of Matera, Montescaglioso, and many other towns and 'inhabited topographies' all over the world. The book is the result of site specific research and narrative experimentation carried out collectively by the artists and includes five photographic contributions on rupestrian civilisation.

Summary:
Based in Kraków, BudCud operates within the fields of architecture and urbanism. Currently led by Mateusz Adamczyk and Agata Wozniczka, the office produces work that is contextually conscious and heavily influenced by the project environment, both physical and cultural, yet also has a playful, experimental approach rooted in an understanding of social interactions and habitable landscapes. This monograph presents more than 20 projects developed since BudCud’s inception in 2007, together with comic diagrams and an essay by Lukasz Wojciechowski. From urban districts and parks to interiors and street furniture, the penchant for a strong narrative persists.

This is a story about the decline and rebirth of a 100 year old garden. Until recently, the Blue Garden, an icon of Gilded Age splendour in Newport, Rhode Island, was known only from hand-tinted slides dating from 1917. Originally designed in collaboration with the garden's original owner by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr, and the Olmsted firm - founded by his father, the great landscape architect responsible for Central Park, New York City - it has now been brought back to life. Landscape historian Arleyn A. Levee tells a researched narrative about the garden's origins, development, heyday, decay and ultimate renaissance.

Summary:
Batia Suter's work intuitively situates found images in new contexts to provoke surprising reactions and significative possibilities. This volume follows on from the first Parallel Encyclopedia, published in 2007. Underlying themes of Suter's practice are the "iconification" and "immunogenicity" of old images, and the circumstances by which they become charged with new associative values. "In my work, I collect groups of images based on various themes and characteristics, and I investigate how they can manipulate each other, depending on where and how they are placed. In the process of making this book, narrative lines unfolded before my eyes as I shifted images around."

Summary:
Like other emerging mega-cities of the world, Dhaka has been growing exponentially, particularly since it became the capital of the independent nation of Bangladesh in 1971. Today, a visitor's first impression of this city could be bewildering. Dhaka is a quintessential 21st century urban narrative of whirlwind modernity. This guidebook focuses on 25 buildings, representing different architectural phases since the Mughal era, beginning in the early 17th century. The featured buildings communicate larger ideas about the city's building tradition, represent an architectural trend, influence the architectural scene, and offer a spatial story in the evolution of the city.
