Summary:
Alexandra Kollontai was a prominent Russian revolutionary, a commissar of Social Welfare after the October revolution in 1917, and a long-term Soviet ambassador to Sweden. As a cofounder of the Zhenotdel, the "Women's Department" in the communist party, she introduced abortion rights, secularized marriage, and provided paid maternity leave. Kollontai considered "comradely love" to be an important political force, elemental in shaping social bonds beyond the limitations of property relations. 'Red Love' stems from a yearlong research by CuratorLab at Konstfack University together with Tensta konsthall, that led up to Dora García's exhibition Red Love and its related public programing. A number of artists and thinkers revisit Kollontai's ideas on the politics of love and their relation to current political, social, and feminist struggles. The publication also includes the biographical play Kollontai from 1977 by distinguished Swedish writer Agneta Pleijel.

''Vantage point'' is a collaborative publication between American artist Daniel Everett and Swedish artist Mårten Lange. The project started as a conversation in 2016 at an exhibition for Daniel’s book ''Throughout the Universe in Perpetuity'' (Études, 2015) during the 'One Thousand Books' Art Book Festival at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen. Mårten was in attendance and instantly recognized one of Daniel’s images. It turned out that he had taken the exact same image from the exact same place/vantage point that Daniel had, just a short time apart in Tokyo. This amazing coincidence prompted the two to begin working together to compile more images from their individual trips to Japan to be shown together in a book. In 2020 FOAM published an excerpt from the project in issue #56 and this book is the full compilation of images.

Summary:
Sir William Chambers (1723–96) was a Swedish British architect who designed imaginative castle buildings and luxurious interiors as well as simple and rational utilitarian architecture: some of his most famous works include the Roehampton Villa, Great Pagoda and Somerset House (all located in London). Originally published in 1756, "A treatise on civil architecture" is an architecture handbook in which Chambers explains the basics of the art of building, aiming "to collect into one volume what is now dispersed in a great many, and to select, from mountains of promiscuous Materials, a Series of Sound Precepts and good Designs." The guidebook is supplemented by texts andl illustrations of classical building types and their functions. Received with considerable acclaim upon its release, "A treatise on civil architecture" quickly became the most popular practical work on architecture in the English language and has since been republished several times.

Summary:
The ''Moving mountains' book is a selection of material enquiries of the Swedish landscape, narrated through a series of texts, recipes and visual materials that ask how we can reconfigure and inform our understanding of the land that surrounds us. The structure of ''Moving mountains'' focuses on opposites: mining in the North and agriculture in the South, the Lapland fells and the Skåne plains, wanted and unwanted industrial materials, new and old approaches to the land. Photographs by Joshua Olley take the reader through portraits of Skåne, Halland, Uppland, Södermanland, Norrbotten and Lappland. Although the investigation was based in Sweden, the concept is reproducible, which comes across during collaborative moments in the book. The design of the book by Kiosk Studio, with its thermolacquer heat sensitive cover, directly responds to the content, meaning the narrative is as much a visual investigation as it is a text based one.

Summary:
Text by Philipp Kaiser, Polly Staple, Karl Holmqvist, Interview by Helena Selder. The video works of the Swedish artist and 2007 Documenta participant Johanna Billing, born in 1973, occupy an unusual terrain between documentary and staged scientific experiment. Billing depicts the rituals of society by filming, for example, a group of young people as they reconstruct a long-forgotten experiment, or a group of artists singing a melancholy ballad together in a gesture of solidarity. By focusing on the dialectical interplay between the individual and the community, Billing reveals processes of social erosion--but without asserting emphatic judgment of these processes. The artists video works--among them the well-known works You Don't Love Me Yet (2003) and Magical World (2005)--have been shown in many international group exhibitions, but this publication is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of her profoundly atmospheric productions.

Summary:
In 2023, Swedish photographer Gerry Johansson (born 1945) roamed the state of Maine with a Rolleiflex, curious to make new pictures in a region of America he first encountered in the work of Paul Strand five decades ago—he found Strand’s views of New England "boring" at the time—and also wondering, "Why is American photography so focused on the west?" Johansson’s Maine echoes the formal restraint of his earlier books, notably American Winter, Spanish Summer, Meloni Meloni and Pontiac, sequencing nearly 200 black-and-white duotones alphabetically by their oddly poetic Northeastern town names (Bath, Friendship, Purgatory, etc). Somehow, none of the Maine pictures draws more attention than any other, and the flawless and playful compositions never seem to repeat. As in all of Johansson’s work, endlessly inventive arrangements of architecture and landscape orient the viewer in a specific geographic and cultural place while generously sharing his way of seeing, walking and thinking with a camera.

Summary:
The renaissance of wood in architecture began in the early 1990s following the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. A lively interest in sustainable materials made wood particularly attractive and it became an important feature in the developing global ecology. Wood as a building material for the home has become independent from the aesthetic designs of a well-known Swedish furniture chain, and it now stands for a healthy interior environment, free of harmful toxic substances, with naturally balanced humidity and comfortable, regulated temperatures. This volume documents in full technical detail some 25 timber buildings in three main areas: residential buildings, holiday homes, and living and working. The individual projects cover a large range of sizes, budgets, and types of construction, and they also show wood in combination with such materials as stone, concrete, and steel. The featured work comes from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, USA, Canada, China, Australia and Brazil, and the architects include Philip Gumuchdjian, Mario Botta, Kengo Kuma and Baumschlager + Eberle.

Summary:
In 1900, Swedish design reformer and social theorist Ellen Key published The Century of the Child, presaging the coming century as a period of intensified focus and progressive thinking around the rights, development and well-being of children. Taking inspiration from Key-and looking back through the twentieth century-this volume, published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, examines individual and collective visions for the material world of children, from utopian dreams for the "citizens of the future" to the dark realities of political conflict and exploitation. Surveying more than 100 years of toys, clothing, playgrounds, schools, children's hospitals, nurseries, furniture, posters, animation and books, this illustrated catalogue illuminates how progressive design has enhanced the physical, intellectual, and emotional development of children and, conversely, how models of children's play have informed experimental aesthetics and imaginative design thinking-engendering, in the process, reappraisals of some of the iconic names in twentieth-century design and enriching the unfolding narrative of modern design with other, less familiar figures.
