Summary:

Summary:
In 1952-1953 Mies van der Rohe built the Crown Hall in Chicago: it was to house the College of Architecture on Illinois' Institute of Technology campus. A spectacular building constructed out of steel and glass, it has no interior supports and the roof is suspended from four steel girders. In the Hall free-standing partitions subdivide the space, creating drawing rooms, a library and an exhibition room. The basement is used for offices and workshops. In Crown Hall, Mies van der Rohe's continual search for a clear expression of structure reached its pinnacle, and in this book this epochal building is presented in text and illustrations by Werner Blaser, who has worked together with Mies van der Rohe.

Summary:
From his early years in Germany to the end of his life in the United States, collective housing has been very present in the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The research carried out by Fernando Casqueiro, Associate Professor at ETSAMadrid, compiles, for the first time, the entire collection of collective housing projects signed by the master. Each work has been analysed, redrawn, and compared on the same parameters. The result is a voyage through the creation and consolidation of a typology, culminating in the seminal works 860-880 Lake Shore Drive and Lafayette Pavilion. The collection is made up of 36 projects, built or only designed, that cover Mies' life, his relationship with his clients and the influence of his collaborators.

Summary:
Acclaimed Japanese photographer Yoshihiko Ueda embarks upon an introspective pilgrimage to discover the architecture of Mies van der Rohe in this elegant photo book. His passion for the famed Modernist’s work is palpable, as he approaches each subject with loving, almost ritualistic care. Ueda’s camera often focuses on the details: textures and grains, doorknobs and furniture, the natural surroundings, the way the light falls, or overlooked corners and unexpected views. He guides us with a sense of physically moving through the place, glancing around, taking it all in with the repetition and progression of viewpoints. In short, a masterful presentation.
