Navigation begins where the map becomes indecipherable. Navigation operates on a plane of immanence in constant motion. Instead of framing or representing the world, the art of navigation continuously updates and adjusts multiple frames from viewpoints within and beyond the world. Navigation is thus an operational practice of synthesizing various orders of magnitude. Only a few weeks prior to his untimely death in 2014, Harun Farocki briefly referred to navigation as a contemporary challenge to montage—editing distinct sections of film into a continuous sequence—as the dominant paradigm of techno-political visuality. For Farocki, the computer-animated, navigable images that constitute the twenty-first century's "ruling class of images" call for new tools of analysis, prompting him to ask: How does the shift from montage to navigation alter the way images—and art—operate as models of political action and modes of political intervention?

Summary:
Capital’s voracious appetite forces architecture into a regime of "never enough." The current realities of building involve extraction and exploitation, which, in turn, cause climate breakdown, environmental ruin, alienated labor conditions, and the destruction of local construction knowledge. But what if we could do architecture differently? What does non-extractivist architecture look like? In this book, Angelika Fitz and Elke Krasny introduce the concept of abundance to call for a paradigm shift in architecture. Using as its example the exceptional work of architect Anupama Kundoo, this book shows that non-extractivist and non-exploitative architecture is undeniably possible. Kundoo, born in Pune, India, weaves together innovative technological experimentation and traditional crafts. With careful consideration of local resources, building skills, climate, and environment, she makes buildings that embody spatial beauty and graceful materiality.

Summary:
''Style and Epoch'' by Moisei Ginzburg, first published in 1924, was the architect's key work; it became the philosophical basis for the Constructivist group of architects. Ginzburg defined the new style in architecture that signified a break from traditional styles. After two industrial revolutions, architects were faced with new challenges by society. The response was an innovative approach to architecture that put people - their needs and functions - at its center. The author's understanding of global economic and cultural processes is evident in his description of the development of a style that came to define the nature of architecture in the twentieth century, which today we call modernism. The significance of this book in terms of an understanding of culture, the avant-garde and the subsequent development of modernist architecture is hard to overestimate.

Summary:
What with global warming, the war on terror, extreme political polarization, an unstoppable demographic explosion and migration, anarchy and chaos are becoming parts of our world system in hitherto unprecedented ways. What to call the planetary state of emergency we are now entering - a “New World Disorder,” perhaps, or “Entropic Empire”? In his latest book, the Dutch philosopher, art historian, writer and activist Lieven De Cauter suggests that an entropic empire is created by opposing forces or philosophical poles: the “state of exception” (tyranny) and the “state of nature” (anarchy). Entropic Empire: Considerations on the Planetary State of Emergency is part post-historical sci-fi scenario and part philosophical consideration on the eternal return of prehistory (the “state of nature”). For De Cauter, the simple but troubling question is: are we falling out of history?

Summary:
Most houses are the product of multiple layers of norms and expectations built up over time, whether methods, materials, and technologies or social, cultural, economic, and political pressures. Yet at various moments houses have been built that break with the past and do something different—houses that stand outside of these expectations and instead are conceived to embody whole new theories or agendas. We call these "manifesto houses." For the first time, this compelling thread in the history of architecture is surveyed by Owen Hopkins. He brings together a collection of twenty-one such manifesto houses, exploring the visions for architecture conjured by Andrea Palladio, Eileen Gray, Frank Lloyd Wright, Harry Seidler, Lina Bo Bardi, Anupama Kundoo, and Sou Fujimoto, among others. "The manifesto house" looks in detail at the ideas and ambitions embodied in each house, the contexts that shaped them, and their impact and influence on the future of architecture.

Summary:
Like light passing through a prism to reveal its many colors, the myriad expressions of the Earth unfold through the seasons. We’ve long moved with their simple and sacred rhythm; they are the primary gateway through which the human engages with cycles of creation, destruction, and renewal. But today we estrange ourselves from the seasons with technology and human-centric myths, while an unraveling climate causes them to grow increasingly unfamiliar. Reflecting a world where snow no longer arrives, annual migrations fall out of time, yet first blossoms still burst, Seasons, our sixth print edition, moves through three themes: requiem, invitation, and celebration—each a contemplation on the paradoxical ways the seasons now beckon us into intimate relationship. This collection of haiku, essays, short fiction, photography, conversations, and poetry, infused with a spectrum of color and light, listens for the turning song of the seasons—for what vanishes and what remains—attentive to these moments that call us into communion with the Earth.

Summary:
Thousands of artefacts produced throughout the years—ideas, projects, exhibitions, events, reflections, publications, library, thousands of photographs, visual identity packs, call for proposals and testimonials were looked through and are now formed into four main chapters:1. Reflections, with contributions by Giovanna Borasi, Amica Dall, Marina Otero Verzier and Stojan Pelko, in a critical and political tone reflect on each year’s ideas submitted at the Calls for Ideas. Chapter 2. Charts give a visual representation of the vast data found in applied and selected ideas, while 3.Dossier takes the form of a statistical report that captures the sheer quantity, complexity and mathematically measurable success of the platform. The highlight of the book is the chapter 4. Collaborations. Here, the evolution from an Idea, through program to the outcome is presented, thus exposing mechanisms of collaboration, which resulted in the many events across Europe, be it an exhibition, publication, film, lecture series and more.

Mobility is the ultimate new form of freedom: freedom from routine, traditional values, and geographic restraints. Today's creatives thrive on a lifestyle that enables them to work six months in a shared office in Berlin, spend the summer in a caravan in Chile, and show up in time for their next project at a temporary desk in New York. This growing trend has generated visionary ways of designing products and spaces that facilitate a nomadic yet high-tech life. From a modular dwelling system on wheels to an inflatable classroom in a repurposed dumpster, this book compiles a wide range of flexible spaces and innovative products that define today's nomads. Through innovative technology, and by (literally) thinking outside the box, the designers behind these concepts give people the freedom to call the entire world their home.
