- This album contains drawings by Charles Rohault de Fleury which range from preliminary sketches to finished drawings - mostly plans, elevations and sections - for unexecuted projects for a Hôtel de préfecture and a Hôtel de ville for the city of Poitiers (Département de Vienne). Highly finished conceptual drawings dated September 1859 depict the general appearance and layout of the Hôtel de préfecture, however, the plans pertain primarily to the Hôtel du Préfet (DR1974:0002:020:003 - DR1974:0002:020:011). Transfer lithographs of working drawings for the Hôtel de préfecture dated November 1859 have detailed measurements showing the layout and construction of all the major building components (DR1974:0002:020:014 - DR1974:0002:020:018 and DR1974:0002:020:020). Also included are a plan and elevation dated February 1860 (DR1974:0002:020:013 and DR1974:0002:020:019). A site plan and perspective view for this Louis XIIIth style hôtel de préfecture have detailed keys (DR1974:0002:020:001 and DR1974:0002:020:002). The utilitarian structures for the Hôtel de préfecture, such as the portico pavilions and the Archives building, are constructed in a sparser style than the Hôtel du Préfet. The project for the Hôtel de ville is much less developed than that for the Hôtel de préfecture. Most of the drawings are unbound at the end of the album (DR1974:0002:020:035 - DR1974:0002:020:050). The two designs for this project, dated October 1859 and December 1859, are similar and depict an Italianate (Francis I ?) two-storey arcuated façade with pedimented windows, and coupled Corinthian columns. The construction materials are brick and stone. The two designs differ in the disposition of their flanking pavilions: the earlier project is housed under one roof (DR1974:0002:020:037), while the later project shows separate roofs for the pavilions (DR1974:0002:020:040 and DR1974:0002:020:042). These structures, together with their adjoining enclosures, house a variety of animals and are scattered among a number of fountains, ponds and clustered shrubs. - In the middle ground, on the central axis of the garden, rises a long, two-storey structure with a large, projecting pavilion in the centre and a tower at either end. Both levels of this structure are encased in verandas and the end towers and central pavilion are capped with pointed domes in an Indian style. The oval area before this structure is enclosed by two curved colonnades open on both sides and supporting a peaked, tile roof. This construction is obviously an orientalized version of St. Peter's Colonnade in Rome. - Further back and behind the long structure occur additional pavilions in a Chinese style, most notably a three-storey pagoda. On axis, and still further back, rises a second long, palace-like structure, sketched in a vaguely Mogul style. The entire ensemble is set in a nondescript, generalized landscape.

- Group DR1994:0011:001 R/V - DR1994:0011:030 includes three sketches (DR1994:0011:001 R/V - DR1994:0011:002 R/V and DR1994:0011:030), 24 pages of notes (DR1994:0011:003 - DR1994:0011:026), two sketchbooks (DR1994:0011:027:001-035 and DR1994:0011:028:001-008 R/V), and the envelope in which these materials were housed at acquisition (DR1994:0011:029). The sketches are for various subjects including I-beams (DR1994:0011:001 R/V), a column-to-beam connection and an unidentified building (DR1994:0011:002 R/V), and a sketch plan of Mies' 1928-1929 design for the Friedrichstrasse office building in Berlin (DR1994:0011:030). Notes DR1994:0011:003 - DR1994:0011:024 are written in German and are generally illegible. Many changes have been made to the notes, and some sheets appear to have been reordered or struck out. Some of the notes may be about urban planning. The number in the upper left corner of sheets DR1994:0011:010, DR1994:0011:012-016 and DR1994:0011:020-021 may indicate the order of the topics dealt with in the notes. Notes DR1994:0011:025 are illegible. Notes DR1994:0011:026 are written in English, and may be notes of a lecture. The notes in sketchbook DR1994:0011:027:001-035 are written in German, are generally illegible, and are usually written in point form or sometimes as lists. Chicago is mentioned on several of the sheets. There is a shift in the clarity of the handwriting halfway through the sketchbook and some of the notes in the latter half may relate to Mies' readings of philosophy. Some of the notes in sketchbook DR1994:0028:001-008 R/V are written in German and some in English.
