Project
AP018.S1.1968.PR04
Description:
This project series documents the plant expansion program for the IBM plant in North York, Ontario from 1969-1970. The office identified the project number as 68040. This project consisted of proposed expansions to the IBM plant located at 844 Don Mills Road, which was built in 1951 and formerly served as their head office. The expansion program proposed four stages of construction, broken into alphabetized lots to divide the work. The construction was to consist of work on underground utilities, the building of each lot, and changes to the roads surrounding the plant. At the same time, Parkin Architects Planners was building IBM's new headquarters on the same property (see project series AP018.S1.1965.PR03 described in this fonds). The project is recorded through reprographic copies of drawings dating from 1969-1970, which consist of construction drawings and as built drawings.

Description:
This project series documents the IBM headquarters building in North York, Ontario from 1965-1967. The office identified the project number as 6511. This project consisted of a U-shaped building located at the top of a ravine at 1150 Eglington Avenue East, on the same property as the IBM plant. The building was brick clad with bronze-tinted windows to reduce heat and glare from the sun. Planning also began for an extension of the headquarters at this time. The headquarters was a mixed-level building with four-storeys at its tallest. The building was included on Toronto's heritage registry in 2006, but a proposal to redevelop the site was submitted for consideration in 2018. The project is recorded through reprographic copies of drawings dating from 1968, which consist of a set of as built plans, sections, elevations, details and layouts. Also included in the project series is a mounted presentation photograph of the finished building exterior.

AP144.S2.D91
Description:
File documents work undertaken by the Lightweight Enclosures Unit (LEU) for the Department of the Environment (DOE), to produce a Draft for Development Code of Practice for Air Supported Structures (DD50) for general use by industry. The project was carried out by Frank Newby and Cedric Price, and includes some of the initial research originally carried out for Air Structures (AP144.S2.D63) and Lightweight Enclosures Unit (AP144.S2.D79). They developed and circulated a questionnaire on behalf of DOE, dated August 1973. The Draft for Development was produced on behalf of British Standards Institution (BSI) for PSA (Property Services Agency) of the Department of the Environment (DOE). Material in this file was produced between 1951 and 1993, but predominantly between 1965 and 1975. Group DR2004:0168 contains material by Ant Farm. Groups DR2004:0170 and DR2004:0172 contain materials that relate to Frei Otto. File contains samples, design development drawing, photographic material, and textual records.

AP206.S1.1984.PR01
Description:
This project series documents a sports complex and a building for a club and library for the Municipal Corporation of Saket (MCHS) in Meerut in 1984. The sports complex, designed to accommodate tennis, badminton, volleyball, hockey and football, consisted of a two-storey building with courts and fields around the property. The building had a sports hall at the centre of the ground floor with several small rooms connected by a veranda around it. These rooms contained bathrooms, storage, and spaces for other recreational activities. The roof of this building doubled as the stands for the football field outside, accessible from second floor terraces or via a spiraling ramp from the building's ground floor. A club and library building were also proposed across the street from the sports complex, consisting of a building with a cylindrical tower and finished in stone rubble on its façade. The project is recorded through original drawings of plans, elevations, sections, perspectives, details and structural drawings dating from on or around 1984.

Description:
This project series documents a non-profit, cooperative housing development in Toronto from 1976-1977. The office identified the project number as 7606 This project investigated four schemes located on Queen's Quay at the shore of Lake Ontario for the Labour Council Development Foundation. The building was referred to as MT 27, because it was to replace the existing marine terminal 27 building. The schemes included a series of V-shaped buildings arranged in S formations, a more classic series of rectangular buildings mixed on the property with hexagonal shaped buildings, and one with just hexagonal buildings. These schemes, arranged on the 3.7 acre site, ranged in size from three to nine storeys and included apartments of varying sizes. The project is recorded through drawings and textual records dating from 1976-1977. The drawings include site plan schemes, typical unit plans and sections, while the textual records consist of correspondence, conference reports and the project proposal.

Port Eliot
AP144.S2.D66
Description:
File documents an unexecuted proposal for the long-term redevelopment of Lord Eliot's estate in Port Eliot, St Germans, Cornwall, United Kingdom. Cedric Price's objective was "to increase the enjoyment and delight of the total property while in no way reducing its effectiveness as an agricultural unit" (Price with Murray 1971, 27). Drawings include site plans and plans of the existing house, and design development drawings for the estate, which locate woodland areas, a viaduct, a tidal estuary, and important views from the house. Renovations to the existing house are indicated on some of the drawings. Some material from this file was published in "Cedric Price Supplement No. 2", 'Architectural Design', vol. 41, (January 1971), 27. File also contains material for a later executed design for a garden maze. Material in the file was produced between 1903 and 1991, but predominantly between 1966 and 1980 and between 1983 and 1987. File contains a conceptual drawing, design development drawings, reference drawings, photographic materials, and textual records.

AP018.S1.1976.PR13
Description:
This project series documents the site development of an office building for J. Douglas Crashley in downtown Toronto from 1976-1977. The office identified the project number as 7618. During this time, J. Douglas Crashley, a prominent Toronto entrepreneur, sought to develop an office building in downtown Toronto. The site was located at the corner of Front and York Streets, with the project consisting of a proposed eight storey office building with retail spaces and underground parking. This site development also proposed connections to nearby attractions such as the CN Tower, Union Station and Congress Centre. The project is often referred to as the Walker House Hotel, due to the fact that it was the building located on the property at this time. Three years earlier, in 1973, J.D. Crashley had commissioned a site investigation of various locations in downtown Toronto for his office building, including this site, which was completed under a different project number assigned by the office (see project series AP018.S1.1973.PR13, also described in this fonds). The project is recorded through correspondence dating from 1977.
