In Richard Meier's case, the Grotta House is the culmination of the styles and techniques that can be found in the best of his work. Designed and constructed in the second half of the 1980s, the house also exhibits the Grottas' exceptional collection of crafts and furniture. This book, which includes an extensive interview with the Grottas as well as detailed photography and text commenting on every facet of the residence, is essential reading for the modern architect or anyone who aspires to commission a house.

Summary:
Tomorrow’s Houses is a photographed presentation of the modernist houses in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, built during the early twentieth century through the 1960s. From the suburbs of Connecticut to the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, modernism in America found some of its earliest, most idealistic, and, later, most refined realizations in houses designed by such masters as Frank Lloyd Wright, Philip Johnson, Mies van der Rohe, Richard Meier, Paul Rudolph, Marcel Breuer, and Walter Gropius, all of whose work is featured in these pages. Photographer Geoffrey Gross has captured in full-color images these composed structures and their appointed interiors, all against the variety of the landscapes of New England.

Summary:
Giuseppe Terragni, an influential proponent of modernism in Italian architecture and design in the 1920s and 1930s, translated the visual vocabulary of Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe into what became known as the Rationalist School of Architecture. This monograph covers his later years (he died in 1943), with a focus on the war and his devastating experience as a soldier. It includes some notable projects from the 1930s like the Casa del Fascio in Como, and the designs for an unrealised final project for a cathedral that he did in the days before his death. The book is illustrated with historical photographs and includes letters Terragni wrote from the front.

Summary:
.Damisch examines the origin of architecture and then its structural development from the nineteenth through the twenty-first centuries. He leads the reader from Jean-François Blondel to Eugène Viollet-le-Duc to Mies van der Rohe to Diller + Scofidio, with stops along the way at the Temple of Jerusalem, Vitruvius's De Architectura, and the Louvre. In the title essay, Damisch moves easily from Diderot's Encylopédie to Noah's Ark (discussing the provisioning, access, floor plan) to the Pan American Building to Le Corbusier to Ground Zero. Noah's Ark marks the origin of construction, and thus of architecture itself. Diderot's Encylopédie entry on architecture followed his entry on Noah's Ark; architecture could only find its way after the Flood.
