The four portfolios of drawings and prints in this group are entitled: Croquis à placer en papier; Croquis divers; Vues d'Italie; and Croquis arrangement de boutiques, de meubles, et de decorations (DR1974:0002:030:001 - DR1974:0002:030:008; DR1974:0002:030:009 - DR1974:0002:030:030; DR1974:0002:030:031 - DR1974:0002:030:050; DR1974:0002:030:051 - DR1974:0002:030:065. -- Porfolio Croquis à placer en papier, comprises three unidentified topographical views in graphite, a drawing of furnishings from the Palais Matteï, Italy [?], a still life of fruit, and a drawing of an elephant. -- Portfolio Croquis divers, comprises both record and design drawings - ranging from sketches to renderings - of varied subject matter. The record drawings include a rendering of the Hôtel de ville, Brussels, and line drawings of a baldachin and an urban square. The design drawings for buildings and interiors in Classical, Gothic and Exotic Revival styles are probably by Hubert Rohault de Fleury and include: line and finished drawings for a dairy after Jean François Joseph LeCointre; an imaginary church, perhaps inspired by Pugin; and a hôtel on rue de Varennes, Paris. Several drawings and prints depict military subject matter: fortifications after Louis de Cormontaigne, a battery, a cannon, and revolutionary battle scenes, some in Paris. Also included are several drawings of non-architectural subject matter - a coat of arms, perhaps of the Bougainville family, cossack soldiers, a boar hunt, a rock formation and lithographic maps of Istria and Rhodes. -- Portfolio Vues d'Italie, consists of mostly freehand drawings of Italian views and buildings in Paestum, Arezzo, Naples, Rome, Caprarola, Florence, Fidenza, Genoa, and Tivoli. The buildings and urban spaces include: Villa Belvedere, Naples; the Cathedral of Borgo S. Donino; the Temple of Vesta, Tivoli; the Campidoglio, Piazza del Popolo, Palais Maccarani, Arc de Septimus Severus, Ste. Pudenziana, and Baslica of Constantine, all in Rome. The presence of preparatory drawings for some of these views suggests they were intended to be published, either as individual prints or in a book. -- Portfolio Croquis arrangement de boutiques, de meuble et de decorations, comprises mostly finished watercolour drawings for Empire style interiors and furniture, probably designed by Hubert Rohault de Fleury. Also included are an elevation for a storefront for Batton Magasin de Fleurs Fines, drawings for two garden structures, and elevations for classical interiors and mouldings.

Although primarily from unidentified sources (DR1974:0002:026:002 - DR1974:0002:026:025, and DR1974:0002:026:038), there are a few drawings with identified sources, and twelve drawings of architectural ornament submitted by Georges to the Concours d'émulation (monthly competitions) held at the École impériale des beaux-arts, Paris. The subject matter of the drawings of architectural ornament from unidentified sources consists of capitals, friezes, festoons, moldings, cartouches, and vegetal and floral ornament. Identified subject matter includes a Composite capital and entablature from the Louvre (DR1974:0002:026:024), details from the Temple of Jupiter Stator, Rome (DR1974:0002:026:007 and DR1974:0002:026:013), and a Corinthian capital from Hôtel Soltykoff, Paris (DR1974:0002:026:038). The drawings for the Concours d'émulation by Georges are numbered "1er" to "12e" and were submitted to concours dating from 16 June 1857 to 22 October 1858 (DR1974:0002:026:026 - DR1974:0002:026:037). An unbound sheet inserted in the front of the album may be a portrait of Charles Rohault de Fleury (DR1974:0002:026:001).

Description:
- This album contains prints and drawings - primarily design development and presentation drawings - mainly for projects for ideal hospitals and for the unexecuted redevelopment of the École de médecine and the surrounding area in Paris by Hubert Rohault de Fleury. Projects for ideal hospitals include: two block plans for hospitals for 400 patients on the site of Hôtel-Dieu (DR1974:0002:008:002 - DR1974:0002:008:003); nine site plans coloured with wash for hospitals for varying numbers of patients, eight of which are for a site near the barrière de Monceau (DR1974:0002:008:010 - DR1974:0002:008:014 and DR1974:0002:008:017 - DR1974:0002:008:020); five block plans for hospitals with no site indicated (DR1974:0002:008:004 - DR1974:0002:008:008); and plans, sections and elevations, most coloured with wash or watercolour, for a more developed project for an ideal hospital for 1000 to 1200 patients with no site indicated (DR1974:0002:008:022 - DR1974:0002:008:025, DR1974:0002:008:027 - DR1974:0002:008:028). The five other drawings for hospitals included in this album are apparently related to the nine site plans (DR1974:0002:008:015, DR1974:0002:008:016, DR1974:0002:008:021, DR1974:0002:008:029, and DR1974:0002:008:030). Plans, elevations and sections for the redevelopment of the area surrounding the École de médecine include the addition of a second amphitheatre to the École de médecine, an addition to the Clinique de l'École de médecine, the alteration of the École de mosaïque for use as a salle de dissection, and alterations to the École royale gratuite de dessin (DR1974:0002:008:031 - DR1974:0002:008:064). Also included are several designs for a classically-inspired fountain to be located at the entrance to the Clinique de l'École de médecine (DR1974:0002:008:042 - DR1974:0002:008:049), and drawings for the Académie de médecine, an institution which was probably housed at the École de médecine during this period (DR1974:0002:008:065 - DR1974:0002:008:068). The album includes record drawings of medical buildings by other architects: a presentation drawing of the Albergo dei poveri in Palermo, designed by Orazio Foretto Palermitano; tracings from drawings of a project for Hôtel-Dieu in Paris, designed by Charles-François Viel de Saint-Maux; the 1775 Grand Prix project for an École de médecine designed by Paul Guillaume Lemoine; prints of the the Hospice de la charité in Lyon, designed by Jean Pollet, and two hospital projects in Dijon designed by Paul P. Petit (DR1974:0002:008:069 - DR1974:0002:008:077).
