Avec un demi-milliard d'euros d'investissement et le choix très select des architectes japonais Sanaa (Pritzker Prize 2010) – déjà auteurs des magasins Christian Dior à Tokyo (2001-2003) –, LVMH aura beaucoup investi à la Samaritaine ! Pourtant, l'essentiel n'est pas là. Initialement parti pour ne devenir qu'un petit « Vuitton City » faisant face au siège du malletier, l'opération repose désormais sur un cobranding réajusté. Avec la complicité d'Édouard François – déjà auteur de l'hôtel Fouquet's Barrière avenue George V –, LVMH Hotel Management entend convertir le vaisseau-amiral Art Déco du grand magasin d'Ernest Cognacq en « plus bel hôtel urbain du monde ». Mais d'un art déco l'autre, que signifie ce type de reconversion patrimoniale à l'âge du « capitalisme artiste » ?
