DR1967:0010:001
Description:
- The two halves of this drawing show alternate stage sets from which the patron could make his choice. It is unclear whether this design was for a painted trompe-l'oeil stage backdrop and/or a constructed stage set. The deep unified space of the architectural interior and low vanishing point of the central landscape indicates that this part of the drawing is probably intended to be a painted trompe-l'oeil, however, the inscribed scale suggests that some of the architectural elements may have been constructed (Fuhring, 161 and 570). The prickings indicate that the overall design was intended to be executed. A crown above the central cartouche in drawing DR1967:0010:002 which is probably by the same hand, indicates a possible royal connection.

Description:
The project series documents "La Mia Scuola D'Architettura" a series of photographs of the Dolomites at the time of Pettena's childhood. The landscape, considered as his school of architecture, is "simply photographed and catalogued, thereby acknowledging at one and the same time the inevitable supremacy of nature, as "begetter" of architecture, and the acceptance of this lesson both conceptually and in its infinite spatial and linguistic." [1] The project series contains photographs and a printout out of a photo montage of natural geological formation. Colina artificial, International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, Leeuwarden, Netherlands (2005)
AP164.S1.2005.D3
Description:
The project series documents the design for an artificial hill and serves as the finish-line for the “Elfstedentocht”, Leeuwarden, Netherlands, at the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2005. The firm identified this project as number 201. "The finish of the great race of the Elfstedentocht should be accompanied by a three-dimensial event which signals the site in the memory of the citizen. If from there, furthermore, the last part of the race is dominated we will be able to imagine that this three-dimensional event is a hybrid between a tribune and a landscaping milestone. […] If towards the South and East it disposes of a slope consisting of artificial lawn with solarium and tribunes above the canal and a scating [sic] park, then towards the North it could house the sport installations with tribunes and a climbing zone with the result that this minimum architectural organization could give life to the site during all year basing on the small sports center, solarium and skating track. A shelter structure crowns the artificial hill composing a lookout spot from where one dominates the whole city and the surrounding landscape." (ARCH270975) Documenting the project are conceptual and presentation drawings, digital, graphic and reference materials, correspondence, publications, competition documents, and agreements.
