Summary:
For the past thirty years, Japanese photographer Naoya Hatakeyama has undertaken a photographic examination of the life of cities and the built environment. Each of his series focuses on a different facet of the growth and transformation of the urban landscape—from studies of architectural maquettes to the extraction and use of natural materials such as limestone, as it is quarried via explosive blasts and subsequently incorporated into the construction of new buildings. These photographs hauntingly embody the death and rebirth of the city, manifesting a deeply personal connection to the ongoing intersection of geology, architecture, and time.

Summary:
"Speaking memory" evokes the complex "language-scapes" that form at the crossroads of culture and history in cities. While engaging with current debates on the nature and role of translation in globalized urban landscapes, the contributors offer a series of detailed and nuanced readings of “translational” cities - their histories, their construction and transformation in memory, and the artistic projects that tell their stories. Defining cities as fields of translational forces where languages are both in conversation and in tension, translation in "Speaking memory" is stretched beyond its usual confines, encompassing literary, artistic, and cultural practices that permeate everyday contemporary life.

Acting Out is the first appearance in English of two short books published by Bernard Stiegler in 2003. In How I Became a Philosopher, he outlines his transformation during a five-year period of incarceration for armed robbery. Isolated from what had been his world, Stiegler began to conduct a kind of experiment in phenomenological research. Inspired by the Greek stoic Epictetus, Stiegler began to read, write, and discover his vocation, eventually studying philosophy in correspondence with Gérard Granel who was an important influence on a number of French philosophers, including Jacques Derrida, who was later Stiegler's teacher.

In retracing the Viaggio photographic archive in Italy, a collection of 220 photographs from a 1984 project organised by pioneering contemporary photographer Luigi Ghirri, Nicola Nunziata presents a multi-layered book that considers the notion of landscape. Rereading the original images in terms of individual and shared experience, memory, and aesthetics, he investigates their substance formats, materials, surface textures, colours, marks and traces, signatures of the authors in order to divulge the singular details that express the history they hold, and thereby reflect upon the sense of transformation on a global scale in the period when they came into being.

In particular, this term encapsulates the tendency of various Blue-Chip Galleries to follow their well-to-do clientele into the reclusion of exclusive luxury enclaves such as Aspen, Saint-Tropez or Monte-Carlo. The issue also engages with the increasing relevance of digital media, which not only plays a growing part in informing processes of recognition but fundamentally influences the conditions under which artistic work is made and experienced.
