Summary:
Between 1949 and 1989, remarkable buildings of late modernity were constructed in the coastal city of Kuwait. Within these four decades, the city state on the Arabian Gulf was comprehensively restructured and practically redesigned. Following a first volume with 150 carefully selected exemplary buildings, this second volume features interviews, essays and arguments, as well as transcripts of contemporary publications of these years. The texts by local and international scholars focus on questions regarding the significance and function of the buildings along with the role of individual and corporate protagonists that influenced, defined and created this highly dynamic restructuring process. Furthermore, all aspects are integrated into a wider regional and international context. The contributions are complemented by an array of photographic, layout, and archive materials.

Summary:
Echoing the pastoral and elegiac modes of the Romantic poets, whose reverence for nature never prevented them from addressing it with all ideas and sensibilities their times allowed, Sina Queyrass stunning new collection explores the infrastructures and means of modern mobility. Addressing the human project not so much as something imposed on nature but as an increasingly disturbing activity within it, Expressway exposes the paradox of modern movement and connection: we build more and more roads and highways (concrete and fibre optic), but rather than feeling more connected to the natural, to each other the more disenfranchised and anxious we seem to become.

Summary:
When weather becomes part of the design of buildings, new affiliations between meteorology and architecture emerge. As the interaction with and use of energy and natural flows within cities and buildings becomes increasingly crucial to the future of urban design, questions regarding the appropriate formal and spatial expressions of these forces must also be addressed. ROEWU, a collaboration between Stephen Roe and Chiafang Wu, combines the experiences each brings from the volatile weather inherent to their respective places of origin, Ireland and Taiwan. This book offers new perspectives as the intersections of climate and architecture are explored.

Summary:
Over the past 20 years, the Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk (born 1978) has created an extensive oeuvre including carpets, tapestries, lamps, glassware, furniture and sculptural objects. Her playfulness with form, great attention to tactility and skillful craftsmanship has given her a unique voice within Dutch design. Van Eijk's creative process is based on her emphatically independent and lively imagination, which she captures in drawings, sketches and textile collages. ''Imaginings'' is an ode to this imagination and presents an overview of Van Eijk's work to date. The book looks closely at her creative process as well, with images and descriptions of objects, sketches and preliminary studies. Texts are by Textiel Museum curator Suzan Russeler, theorist Lidewij Edelkoort, painter Marc Mulders and design writer Blaire Dessent.

This issue features the Swiss architecture firm known as EMI, established in 2005 by architects Ron Edelaar, Elli Mosayebi, and Christian Inderbitzin. Their works span exhibitions, refurbishments, new buildings, and urban planning, but housing remains their primary interest as they examine and reinterpret the small-scale components that contribute to human agency and enjoyment within a dwelling. The 21 projects featured here range from gardens and landscapes to villas and high-rises. In all of them, EMI embeds rational design choices with notions of poetry, as evidenced in the Brüggliäcker Housing Complex in Zurich, Stockmattstrasse Townhouses in Baden, and others.

Summary:
This issue expands on codes as ethical, social, political, and legal boundaries—considering them as sets of visible and invisible instructions moving within and beyond the digital imaginary. Through features, interviews, and experimental texts, artists and writers probe how developments in AI and coding are products of existing mechanics of the world, and how else codes are constituted. From programming languages as poetry to paranormal readings with the land against settler ideas of an inanimate wilderness, contributors ask how the material consequences of an array of codes might be re-inscribed to understand or lay form to (alternate) conditions of life.

Summary:
This volume revives the work of late nineteenth-century landscape photographers who shaped the environmental attitudes of settlers in the colonies of the Tasman World and in California. Despite having little association with one another, these photographers developed remarkably similar visions of nature. In both the American West and the Tasman World, landscape photography fed into settler belonging and produced new ways of thinking about territory and history. During this key period of settler revolution, a generation of photographers came to associate “nature” with remoteness, antiquity, and emptiness, a perspective that disguised the realities of Indigenous presence and reinforced colonial fantasies of environmental abundance. This book lifts the work of these photographers out of their provincial contexts and repositions it within a new comparative frame.
