Summary:
How did art escape the deadlock of the Situationists' anti-art refusal? Did the relational artists, with their repetitions of Situationist slogans and techniques, outline a sustainable, micro-political alternative to Guy Debord's dream of surpassing art and realizing philosophy? Looking back at some of the Situationists' confrontations with the museum, this book traces a path beyond the tragedy of negativity and the litany of recuperation. At the center is the concept of play; originally adopted as the principle of reconciled life, it returns as the lever of instrumentalization. But in the extraterrestial wasteland of the present, spaces of ludic coexistence and experimentation may remain possible, provided that pessimism can be adequately organized.

Summary:
"SuperDesign" charts the Italian Radicals’ experimentation in modern design from its birth through its continued influence on design today. Radical Design was launched by art, architecture, and design students in Italy in the mid-1960s. What started as a youthful rally against the establishment and a rejection of design norms became a movement that brought together avant-garde thinkers and makers across the country.Through furniture and objects as well as public innovations, the Radicals projected design’s new era as equal parts Pop Art, play, Surrealism, and futurism. Told through exclusive interviews, unreleased photographs, original drawings and artwork unearthed from personal archives, "SuperDesign" explores this period of design that played out against the era’s social and political turmoil.

''Besides, History: Go Hasegawa, Kersten Geers, David Van Severen'' invites three architects to reread, redraw, translate, and appropriate from the past and from each other in order to construct relationships between and meanings out of a constellation of references. In their conversations, history becomes a tool that can be used in production, rather than just an object of study. The book features newly produced plans, sections, models, and perspectives for projects by Go Hasegawa and OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen, juxtaposed with reference material chosen from the CCA Collection. Introduced and annotated by the architects, these images form a visual manifesto for a unique relationship to history.

The curators Andrea Branzi and Kenya Hara selected one hundred verbs, connected to one hundred objects, to let us travel across human history; words which relate to actions which relate to objects. Walking through the exhibition Neo-Prehistory at Triennale di Milano and reading this book means becoming lost in a space out of time, dark and multiplied by mirrors that make the exhibition apparently boundless. An infinite space where the hypnotic sequence of artifacts is emphasized by the primeval sound of a heartbeat slowing down and then accelerating rhythmically in a mesmeric cycle.

Summary:
Conceived in the 1960s, Walt Disney's original plans for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) outlined a utopian laboratory for domestic technology, where families would live, work, and play in an integrated environment. Like many of his contemporaries, Disney imagined homes that would attend to their inhabitants' every need, and he regarded the home as a site of unending technological progress. This fixation on "space-age" technology, with its promise of domestic bliss, marked an important mid-twentieth-century shift in understandings of the American home. In A Small World, Davin Heckman considers how domestic technologies that free people to enjoy leisure time in the home have come to be understood as necessary parts of everyday life.

"Protest" takes a wide-ranging approach to the practice of protest, bringing together contributors from different disciplines and from around the globe. Social, historical, sociological and political-scientific perspectives play as much of a role in this publication as approaches that draw on image theory, popular culture, cultural studies and the arts. Simultaneously historical and contemporary, the book also explores such present-day developments as the virtualization of activism, the relationship of the virtual and the fictional, and the exploitation of these trends in politics by power-holders of all shades. A timely publication, "Protest: The Aesthetics of Resistance" explores marginalized communities' practices of resistance and reflects on the past, present and future of protest.

Summary:
As people make considered choices about their own lives and deaths, cremation has become an increasingly popular option in Europe, representing a recent but accelerating change in funerary practices. What do these spaces actually look like? What role does architecture play in these rituals? Considering precisely these questions, the authors of ''Goodbye Architecture'' embarked on a unique tour of European architecture. For the first time, the spaces and practices of cremation- the sites of some of our deepest desires and fears about life and death- receive serious architectural consideration. A wide range of facilities are documented in this volume with extensive illustrations and analyses, providing a glimpse of an essential architecture often hidden in plain sight.

Exhibition catalogue from June to November 2008, Ridgefield, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. The artist is one of the most celebrated portrait painters of recent times, but it is not as well known that she has always practiced photography alongside painting. Her photographs, taken over the last two decades with 35-millimeter Polaroid and (more recently) digital cameras, reveal a more informal side to Peyton's aesthetic, in which the intrinsic serendipities of photographic exposure and development are allowed full play. The 62 portraits published in this volume are a mixture of celebrities and art stars of varying fame, such as Marc Jacobs, Matthew Barney, Chloe Sevigny, Jake Chapman, Nick Relph, Spencer Sweeney, Jarvis Cocker, Gavin Brown, etc.

Summary:
"Perspecta 32" is an investigation into architectural modernism in a postmodern age and exploration of surface as a subject with depth. If it is understood that we are now in age that that does not look at modernity uncritically, how does its optimistic imagery continue to play a vital role in architecture? The issue, "Resurfacing modernism", is composed of essays and images that invoke the two simultaneous meanings of the verb tu resurface. In the first sense, some of the contributors interrogate ongoing returns of past "stylistics", specially the recent vogue for postwar, mostly American, production loosely united under the rubric "The fifties". In the second, other contributors reflect upon current emphasis being placed on architectural surfaces.
