Project
AP207.S1.1992.PR01
Description:
The project series documents Pettena's preliminary study and proposal for the restoration and conversion of the Forte Inglese, a Napoleonic era fortification in Portoferraio, Italy. Pettena worked on this project in 1992. The restauration and conversion project for the fort was not realized because of changes in the local government. The proposal consisted of converting the fort into an exhibition space, an auditorium and a public garden "by simply adding spaces that utilized volumes created underground or at the rear: thus the respect of the preexisting context was assured, from the viewpoint of history as well as landscape." [1] The project series contains a preliminary study report by Pettena, sketches, site plans, floor plans, elevations, and sections for Pettena's proposal, reference photographs, research material, such as photocopies of publications on the fort and reference plans for the historic building. AP056.S1.1988.PR03
Description:
This project series documents the first phase of development for renovations to the Stratford Festival Theatre in Stratford, Ontario in 1988. The office identified the project number as 8806. Conceived with Thomas Payne as the partner-in-charge, this project consisted of the master plan for future renovations to the famous tent-shaped theatre. The plan divided these renovations into several phases, the last of which proposed the addition of a new museum space. The realization of this project began in 1994, and was completed under a different project number (see project series AP056.S1.1994.PR14 in this fonds). The project is recorded through drawings and photographic materials dating from on or around 1988, with one drawing from 1995. The drawings include sketches, presentation drawings, plans, elevations and sections. The photographic materials consist of an aerial site photograph and studies of the project model.

Description:
Objectifs du concours: "The competition objectives and evaluation criteria in the Place Jacques-Cartier competition neither separated programmatic issues from specific architectural ones nor did they establish a hierarchy for these issues. The competitors were asked to generate general attitudes towards development in the area at the same time as they were asked to design street furniture, lighting, and decorative ironwork (mentioned at least 8 times in the competition document.)"
