Summary:

Gio Ponti (1891–1979) was a giant of Italian Modernism, contributing to a multitude of fields: architecture, industrial design, furniture design, education, art criticism and publishing. From 1923 to 1930, Ponti served as the artistic director of the now cult Italian tableware manufacturer Richard Ginori. In 1928, he founded the internationally renowned magazine Domus, which, apart from a break in the 1940s, he continued to direct for the rest of his life. In the postwar era, Ponti and his associates Antonio Fornaroli and Alberto Rosselli shaped the architectural image of Milan but were also active across the globe from Caracas to Tehran, Denver, Islamabad and Eindhoven. "More than one: Gio Ponti" delves into the many components of Ponti’s creative contribution to the 20th century and traces his enduring influence in Italy and across the globe.

Pierro Lissoni is one of Italy's most successful Designers, leading a company in Milan with over 50 Architects and Designers. So far he is known more for his furniture design rather than his architecture. He is often thought of as a minimalist, but in reality, Piero Lissoni's aim is to create a complementary cohabitation of different styles. His highest goal is simplicity: as way of thinking, as an attitude, simplicity holds a great inner complexity. For Piero Lissoni it is always imperative to scale down and get to the bottom of things. Among his customers are renown companies such as Boffi and Matteograssi. The book introduces to a selection of his outstanding projects all around the world. Text in english, german, french, spanish and italian.

Summary:
Highlighting episodes from preindustrial England, New York City and Chicago between the 1850s and the early 1900s, Weimar-era Berlin, and neoliberal Milan, Álvaro Sevilla-Buitrago shows how capitalist urbanization has eroded the egalitarian, convivial life-worlds around the commons. The book combines detailed archival research with provocative critical theory to illuminate past and ongoing struggles over land, shared resources, public space, neighborhoods, creativity, and spatial imaginaries. This volume underscores the ways urbanization shapes the social fabric of places and territories, lending particular awareness to the impact of planning and design initiatives on working-class communities and popular strata. Projecting history into the future, it outlines an alternative vision for postcapitalist urban planning, in which the structure of collective spaces is ultimately defined by the people who inhabit them.
