Summary:
French-born artist Valerie Galloway graduated from the University of Arizona in 1987 with a B.F.A. in photography, living in New York for many years before settling in Tucson, Arizona. Galloway’s practice includes photography, painting and mixed media, with a focus on nudes, street photography in New York and Paris, and Tucson’s Sonoran Desert. The 32 hand-colored, toned gelatin silver photographs featured in "Rêver dans le désert" demonstrate her disparate styles: the voyeurism of Eugene Atget, the inexplicability of Man Ray, and the furtive aimlessness of the French New Wave. These images capture both fleeting French cultural references and timeless desert topographical references, each paying homage to the surrealists of the 1930s. "Rêver dans le désert" is bound in coffee-colored silk boards with contrasting linen spine, and beautifully printed on natural textured art paper. This first monograph is published to coincide with solo exhibitions of the artist’s work in Milan and Tokyo. This first edition is limited to 500 copies.

Summary:

Summary:
The House of Switzerland is a mobile building that serves as the official visitors’ center for Switzerland at major international events. Following its debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the building went on to serve events in Zurich, Milan, and Rio de Janeiro. This book takes a close look at the architectural and design challenges presented by a building that has to be mobile, accessible, and visually striking. Drawing on materials from the planning process conducted by Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the architectural firm Spillmann Echsle Architects, which built the house together with Ortreport scenographers, the book presents a dictionary of all elements in the building set for the house, illustrated with images and plans rendered with rich technical detail. A discussion between the key figures involved in the project rounds out the book, exploring the process of creating such an iconic representation of a nation abroad.

Summary:
Just like "Colors", "Numbers" was originally published in 1945 too. Once again, its graphic refinement makes this book an art project in itself, much more than a mere children’s book. I count from zero to ten with the fingers and with abstract compositions made of coloured shapes scattered on a black background and black & white squares tidily ranged on a white background. A journey from abstract to concrete that gradually reveals through the pages. Lastly, two pages of "abstract additions": number 10 is obtained with every possible combination of numbers by the use of colours. Luigi Veronesi (Milan, 1908-1998) always thought art as an instrument that involves all the aspects of the aesthetic experience, and investigated its relationship with the age of mechanization. Famous for his colour transpositions of music scores, he was a member of the MAC (Movement for Concrete Art) and one of the most “european” among Italian abstract painters. He also was one of the first authors to use photography in childrens’ books.

Summary:
Alessandro Mendini (Milan, 1931) is one of the few protagonists of the international scene of architecture, art and design who designed in every possible size. Walter Gropius’s renowned statement identifies the architect’s field “from spoon to city”: during his career Mendini faced projects “from the infinitesimal to the infinite”. The book dedicated to Alessandro Mendini published by Corraini is a non-stop stream of images and occasions among the renowned Milanese architect’s works and philosophy. Designing horizons, rooms, bodies and thoughts are the four moments of a personal and evocative course through Mendini’s works: from urban landscape to interior furnishing, to body accessories, to his activity as architecture and design theorist, Mendini is a protagonist of a personal and aesthetic approach to the project. His design is famous for its emotional and individual character, as well as for the greater importance given to psychological and sensory influences rather than rational contents. In fact, his projects have often been associated with definitions such as “visual poetry”, “fairy and baroque design”, and “labyrinth expansion of spaces and sensations”.

Summary:
This book reveals how the work of these architectural talents is also made possible by companies such as Permasteelisa, which offer technological solutions for constructing the most futuristic buildings. Permasteelisa produces continuous external cladding: the skin of skyscrapers, large airports, and current business centers. Drawing on its constant research into technology and materials, it collaborates with large architectural firms to transform an architect’s project into a building. This was the case for the Sydney Opera House, with its futuristic sails; for the Guggenheim in Bilbao and its curved facades conceived by Frank Gehry; and for the scintillating blades of Renzo Piano’s Shard in London. The book tells the story of Permasteelisa. With the texts by international urban planning scholars and data analysis and georeferencing methodologies developed at the Transnational Architecture and Urbanism Lab (TAU-Lab) of the Politecnico di Milano, it shows how this Italian company’s know-how has allowed it to shape the faces of many contemporary cities such as New York, Paris, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Milan, Hong Kong, and Sydney.

Summary:
This volume, which accompanies the great retrospective exhibition devoted to Enzo Mari and curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist (Milan Triennial, 17 October 2020 – 18 April 2021), celebrates the work and thought of Enzo Mari, one of the leading masters and theorists of Italian design. These are chiefly reconstructed through the constant dialogue he engaged in, over the years, with the curator Hans Ulrich Obrist. Plans, sketches, unpublished archive material, essays and interviews illustrate over 60 years of work, tracing for the first time a systematic and exhaustive itinerary – articulated into 19 ''research platforms'' – that conveys Mari’s sensitivity as a designer, artist, critic and theoretician, along with the striking relevance of his thought. According to Mari, design can only be regarded as such if it also transmits knowledge. His projects, which have withstood the test of time, have been conceived in such a way as to be sustainable – from a material as much as aesthetic perspective – and accessible to all. As Hans Ulrich Obrist recalls, ''For Enzo everything revolves around the object, and good design alone is destined to triumph''.

Summary:

Summary:
Philippe Parreno (born 1964) is interested more in the dynamics of how a work of art is shown to the public than in its actual production, and in his films, installations, performances and texts, he subverts the codes normally applied to exhibition spaces. By placing the construction of the exhibition at the heart of his process, the French artist redefines the exhibition experience as a coherent object rather than a collection of individual works. “The exhibition is conceived as a scripted space,” he writes, “like an automaton, producing different temporalities, a rhythm, an itinerary, and a duration. The visitor is guided through the spaces by the appearance and orchestration of sounds and images ... a mental choreography.” Published to accompany his 2015 exhibitions in New York and Milan, Hypnosis Hypothesis offers a rich critical overview of Parreno's work, featuring essays by Cyril Béghin, Molly Nesbit, Brian O’Doherty and Adam Thirlwell, and interviews with exhibition curators Hans Ulrich Obrist and Andrea Lissoni. The monograph provides invaluable new research on one of the most influential and charismatic figures on the contemporary art scene.
