What is the relationship between a specific physical environment, whether architectural, urban or natural, and how the occupants use, experience, develop and maintain a space? And which different rules and decisions shape a space and its particular use? These questions are the driving force behind Atelier Bow-Wow’s delightful and thought-provoking search for the harmonious balance between forms of being (physical space) and forms of doing (how space is occupied). Designed as a scrapbook containing a wide-ranging collection of ideas aimed at starting an exploration, the publication blends observations and comments with sketches and photographs.

Summary:
In the summer of 1975, NASA brought together a team of physicists, engineers, and space scientists—along with architects, urban planners, and artists—to design large-scale space habitats for millions of people. This Summer Study was led by Princeton physicist Gerard O’Neill, whose work on this topic had previously been funded by countercultural icon Stewart Brand’s Point Foundation. Two painters, the artist and architect Rick Guidice and the planetary science illustrator Don Davis, created renderings for the project that would be widely circulated over the next years and decades and even included in testimony before a Congressional subcommittee. A product of its time, this work is nevertheless relevant to contemporary modes of thinking about architecture. ''Space Settlements'' examines these plans for life in space as serious architectural and spatial proposals.

Summary:
For some time now, a new approach has been emerging to questions of town planning and the use of public and private space. The focus is no longer on the master plan, the strategy, and the making of long-term arrangements. Instead, the ephemeral, trial and error, and the unplanned are gaining legitimacy. Temporary uses are both indicators of this development and(...)

Summary:
For some time now, a new approach has been emerging to questions of town planning and the use of public and private space. The focus is no longer on the master plan, the strategy, and the making of long-term arrangements. Instead, the ephemeral, trial and error, and the unplanned are gaining legitimacy. Temporary uses are both indicators of this development and beneficiaries of a new way of seeing. The volume "Temporary urban : concepts for the use of city spaces" brings together eleven articles and essays by renowned individual authors who approach the subject from a theoretical perspective. In its main section, the book provides extensive documentation of projects involving temporary use from throughout Europe and the United States.

Summary:
This essay opens up multiple dimensions of the oncept from architectural, political, philosophical, and technological points of view. There is some historical analysis here, but the contributors are more focused on the future of public space under conditions of growing urbanization and democratic confusion. The added interest offered by non-academic work—visual art, fiction, poetry, and drama—is in part an admission that this is a topic too important to be left only to theorists. It also makes an implicit argument for the crucial role that art, not just public art, plays in a thriving public realm.

Summary:
Skateboarders are an increasingly common feature of the urban environment - recent estimates total 40 million world-wide. We are all aware of their often extraordinary talent and manoeuvres on the city streets. This book is the first detailed study of the urban phenomenon of skateboarding. It looks at skateboarding history from the surf-beaches of California in the 1950s, through the purpose-built skateparks of the 1970s, to the street-skating of the present day and shows how skateboarders experience and understand the city through their sport. Dismissive of authority and convention, skateboarders suggest that the city is not just a place for working and shopping but a true pleasure-ground, a place where the human body, emotions and energy can be expressed to the full.
