Description:
The project series documents "Spazio Vuoto Riservato A Gianni Pettena", an installation that consists of a banner with the words "Spazio Vuoto Riservato A Gianni Pettena". The first version of the banner dates from 1973, but it was initially used for the exhibition "Contribution" in Rennes in 2008, where Pettena, one of the artists invited to carry out interventions in symbolic locations around the city, chose to install his banner inside the market. The banner was used also in Pettena's solo exhibition at the Galerie Mercier & Associés, in Paris in 2011, and again at the Spazio MEGA in Milan, in 2017. "Pettena not only introduced the artistic intervention into an environment that was alien to it, but extended the provocation to the point of laying claim to absolute freedom for the artist." [1] The project series contains a sign with the words "Spazio Vuoto Riservato A Gianni Pettena", possibly the sign designed in 1973, photographs of the second edition in Rennes, photographs of the third edition of the installation at the Galerie Mercier et Associés, and photographs of the fourth edition of the installation at the Spazio MEGA. AP018.S1.1980.PR09
Description:
This project series documents the design and construction of an office building and its signage for Marathon Realty in Toronto at the corner of York and Front Streets from 1980-1984. These materials are arranged under two project subseries based on the project numbers assigned by the creating office. The project numbers assigned were 8009 and 8009-8214A. The first subproject consisted of the design and construction of the office building (see project subseries AP018.S1.1980.PR09.SS1 for more detail) and the second subproject documented the installation of signs to the top of the building (see project subseries AP018.S1.1980.PR09.SS2 for more detail). This building, originally owned by Marathon Realty, became known as University Place and would eventually become the headquarters of CitiBank and be renamed Citigroup Place. The materials refer to the building primarily as University Place. These two subprojects are recorded through drawings, photographic materials, textual records and material samples dating from 1980-1987.

Mel Ziegler: Growing Concern
The front garden is a sign, a place both public and private, conveying the convictions and values of the households they frame. Growing Concern, a grass relief in Baile Park by American artist Mel Ziegler (b.1956), represents the North American obsession with the lawn. The artist considers the cultural obsession with the growth of our lawns to be symbolic of the taming(...)
