Summary:
In this sequel to "Good News (always read the fine print)", photographer Jordi Bernadó revamps his personal viewpoint in order to make another tour around the world and to demonstrate that the details hidden in minute type at the bottom of the page can and should be read. The shanty towns of Brazil, the peep shows of Barcelona, the beaches of Cape Town and Sydney, the downtown core of Detroit, the ruins of Bucharest, and the subterranean world of Nagoya coalesce here to form a unique landscape. Reproduced in pairs, juxtaposing images from joint but different trips, the photographs in "Very Very Bad News" share a single fixation: contriving, by means of what can be read between two images, to accentuate the insistence on portraying the black side of apparent normality.

Summary:

Summary:
"I Am Almost Always Hungry" is the first monograph on the work of Cahan & Associates, a San Francisco based design agency. The firm's working methods, involving extensive exploration, collaboration, and play, are documented in this monograph through interviews with founder Bill Cahan, clients, and vendors; writings by colleagues; photo essays; proposals to clients that were accepted and rejected; and finished pieces, providing a portrait of a firm for whom process is just as important as product. Cahan & Associates, founded in 1984, works on projects ranging from packaging and annual reports to posters, websites, and corporate identity programs, with clients including Coca-Cola, Sun Microsystems, and the U.S. Postal Service. The book is a tour-de-force of production itself: printed on twelve different kinds of papers, the entire book is French-folded.

Summary:
The rise and fall of this highly embellished idiom, which culminated in its denouncement as aesthetically and morally suspect — "a freak of fancy" — are traced in this, the first comprehensive study devoted to the history of American artistic printing. Authors Douglas Clouse and Angela Voulangas explore the style's origins in the British Aesthetic Movement and analyze its distinctive features : idiosyncratic color harmonies, eclectic choice of type and ornament, compartmentalized compositional strategies. They also present a landmark portfolio of letterpress printing samples, drawn from some of the most important public and private print archives. More than 150 examples of period ephemera, printers' own tour de force promotional pieces, and specimens of type and ornament are reproduced, many for the very first time since their initial circulation more than a century ago.

Thousands of citizens are in line for . . . nobody knows quite what, but the rumors are flying. Leather or suede? Jackets, jeans? Turkish, Swedish, maybe even American? It doesn’t matter–if anything is on sale, you better line up to buy it. Sorokin’s tour de force of ventriloquism and formal daring tells the whole story in snatches of unattributed dialogue, adding up to nothing less than the real voice of the people, overheard on the street as they joke and curse, fall in and out of love, slurp down ice cream or vodka, fill out crossword puzzles, even go to sleep and line up again in the morning as the queue drags on.

Summary:
The publication of "Cultural Studies 1983" is a touchstone event in the history of Cultural Studies and a testament to Stuart Hall's unparalleled contributions. The eight foundational lectures Hall delivered at the University of Illinois in 1983 introduced North American audiences to a thinker and discipline that would shift the course of critical scholarship. Unavailable until now, these lectures present Hall's original engagements with the theoretical positions that contributed to the formation of Cultural Studies. Throughout this personally guided tour of Cultural Studies' intellectual genealogy, Hall discusses the work of Richard Hoggart, Raymond Williams, and E. P. Thompson; the influence of structuralism; the limitations and possibilities of Marxist theory; and the importance of Althusser and Gramsci. Throughout these theoretical reflections, Hall insists that "Cultural Studies" aims to provide the means for political change.

Summary:
Introduction de Nikola Jankovic
