Summary:
"L'homme est la nature prenant conscience d'elle-même", annonce le frontispice de l'Homme et la Terre, dernier livre d’Élisée Reclus (1830-1905) publié juste après sa mort. Dix ans plus tôt, il présentait un "projet de globe terrestre" monumental : 200m de haut et 20 million de francs. Conçu pour l'Exposition universelle de 1900, il aurait dû, au temps des colonies, des panoramas et des zoos humains, se tenir au sommet de la Colline de Chaillot, face à la tour Eiffel... Étrange expérience bachelardienne que ces caves et greniers de l'Univers, à la foisgéode, palais de la découverte et planétarium de notre propre sol habité! Ses trois sphères auraient fièrement reflété l'aspiration d'un géographe libertaire qui, exilé de France après la Commune, voyait la Terre comme un trait d'union entre les hommes...
