Summary:
New architecture in the Arab world is the leading feature of this instalment, which focuses on preeminent projects such as the National Museum of Qatar by Jean Nouvel, OMA’s Qatar National Library, and the Apple Dubai Mall by Foster + Partners. Another feature, entitled “Houses, the Art of Landing”, looks at four dwellings that show how architects use compositional, material, and technological innovations to perfect a building’s connection to its site. Included are designs by Atelier Branco Arquitectura, Marià Castelló, Pavol Mikolajcak, and Elemental. Finally, the magazine explores the meaning behind projects that deliver non-routine experiences in “(Un)familiar Places”.

Summary:
This issue introduces the most recent works by three Korean architects: Seung H-Sang, Byoungsoo Cho, and Heesoo Kwak. Four critics travelled across Korea to visit three buildings and interview the architects in person. Also featured are reviews of five communal buildings that are intended to be shared and enjoyed by their communities. Each is set in a tranquil location and has its own personality. Finally, the issue investigates the hybrid nature of large community complex buildings, vertical towns that provide one-stop service systems. Clearly, with the acceleration of urbanisation, the position of architects in small rural towns versus mega-cities tends to differ greatly.

Summary:
Offering questions of the past to ground questions of the present, "How about now?" summons the enduring concerns and preoccupations that designers constantly revisit, reconsider, and redefine in response to a changing world. This installment of the GSD Platform series celebrates- and places itself within- the rich tradition of student publications at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Produced annually, this compendium highlights a selection of work from the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and design, and design engineering, and exposes a rich and varied pedagogical culture committed to shaping the future of design. Documenting projects, research, events, exhibitions, and more, Platform offers a curated view into the emerging topics, techniques, and dispositions within and beyond the Harvard GSD.
