The history of architecture addresses the relationships between spaces, buildings, urban geometries, and social practices—it tells us how an experience of space corresponds to an experience of the world. To this end, this lecture will analyze the sixteenth-century debate around the completion of the facade of the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna, partially built in the(...)

An archive is usually named for one person, but it always contains many other voices. On 12 July, 30 August, and 27 September, CCA staff and special guests read letters written by children, threatening lawyers, architects trying to manage disasters, as well as lectures that were never delivered, from the archives of Cornelia Hahn Oberlander and James Stirling and Michael(...)

When Gordon Matta-Clark assembled the titles to and documentation of a dozen-odd small, vacant parcels of New York property between 1974 and 1977 (later assembled and exhibited as Reality Properties: Fake Estates in 1992), it was with no well-formed agenda—other than his view that the availability of vacant and underutilized parcels [was] a direct reminder of the fallacy(...)
