The Frankfurt-based architecture firm Stefan Forster Architekten (SFA) has from its founding in 1989 maintained a special focus on housing. They made their name in the years following Germany’s reunification, when dozens of prefabricated plattenbauten in the former GDR needed refurbishment and modernization. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding housing structures, SFA carefully adjusted existing buildings to the new needs of fewer people and more humanness in the shrinking cities of the newly formed federal states in the reunited country’s east. Since then, SFA have moved on, exploring the topic of housing in increasingly dense metropolitan environments and creating a remarkable and manifold body of work in this field. Their designs comprise large-scale public multi-unit blocs, townhouses, at times by way of transforming former office and public administration buildings. ''Stefan Forster Architekten,'' the firm’s first-ever monograph, features thirty designs that exemplify SFA’s approach and philosophy and highlights how the firm has continuously worked on raising the standards of residential architecture.

They are the crystalline structures that support life. Over the past decade, Aranda\Lasch has focused obsessively on these structures as a form of both organization and expression for architecture. Their projects explore the interplay between rule-based systems and human ritual. Walker’s newest series of large-scale drawings stem from her consideration of monuments and notions of permanence and impermanence following her massive public art project, A Subtlety, in Brooklyn. Summary:
Norwegian artist Siri Aurdal (born 1937) achieved prominence in her home country during the 1960s and ’70s with works that encouraged public participation. An interest in mathematics moved Aurdal to devise modular forms that could be reconceived for a range of sites, not only in the galleries and museums where they were initially exhibited. These works included installations made of common materials like Plexiglas or large-scale sinusoidal sculptures made of industrial tubes. The reproductions in this artist’s book include installation views, slides, drawings, collages, portraits and ephemera from the 1960s to 2016, highlighting many pieces that have never been exhibited or are no longer in existence. Aurdal collaborated with Norwegian artist Eline Mugaas on an exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus, and Mugaas extended their collaboration into book form, assembling this catalogue-cum-artist’s book. It gives a kaleidoscopic representation of Aurdal’s past ventures, her archive and her current studio work, lyrically arranged by Mugaas.

Sprawling beneath the Acropolis, modern Athens is commonly viewed in negative terms: congested, ugly and monotonous. A Mediterranean version of "informal" urbanism prevalent throughout the so-called developing world, ''Builders, Housewives and the Construction of Modern Athens'' reassesses the explosive growth of post-war Athens through its most distinctive building type, the polykatoikia, a small-scale multi-storey apartment block (from poly meaning "multiple" and oikos meaning "house"). Theocharopoulou re-evaluates the polykatoikia as a low-tech, easily constructible innovation that stimulated the post-war urban economy, triggering the city's social mid-twentieth century transformation, enabling the migrants who poured into Athens to become urban citizens, aspiring to a modern life. The interiors of the polykatoikia apartments reflect a desire for modernity as marketed to housewives through film and magazines. Regular builders became unlikely allies in designing these polykatoikia interiors, enabling inhabitants to exert agency over their daily lives ?and the shape of the post-war city.
