Artist Dan Graham and writer Jessica Russell's playful Architecture/Astrology considers some of the most important and innovative figures in the world of architecture from an angle few would expect: their star signs. Originally published as a column for Domus magazine, Graham and Russell's book integrates critical analysis with astrology and mythology to offer alternative perspectives on the work and personalities of artist/architects including Frank Gehry (a restless, dreamy Pisces), Frank Lloyd Wright (a romantic Gemini with one foot in the past and the other in the future), Eero Saarinen (a dynamic, dramatic Leo) and Le Corbusier (a logical, balanced Libra). With accompanying illustrations by Mieko Meguro.

Summary:
At the turn of the millennium--the end of a calibrated period of time--it seems necessary to ask certain questions, foremost among them: Anymore? Anymore history and theory? Anymore architecture? Of particular concern are the last two hundred years, a self-conscious period known as modernism. Can we assume that a simple calendar change signals an end or a time of end? Is there anymore? The contributions in "Anymore" are by architects, critics, historians, philosophers, sociologists, urbanists, and others. They include Akira Asada, Hubert Damisch, Peter Eisenman, Arata Isozki, Rem Koolhaas, Rosalind Krauss, Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Mark C. Taylor, Bernard Tschumi, and Anthony Vidler, as well as young architects from France whose work many American readers will encounter here for the first time. Anymore is the ninth book in the ongoing series that began in 1991 with "Anyone" and was followed by "Anywhere", "Anyway", "Anyplace", "Anywise", "Anybody", "Anyhow", and "Anytime". Each volume is based on a conference at which architects and leaders in other fields come together to present papers and discuss a particular idea in architecture from a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary perspective. The conference upon which "Anymore" is based took place in Paris in June 1999 and will be followed by "Anything".

Summary:
A discussion of how architecture functions in a complex world of obligation and responsibility, with a preface offering specific discussion of architecture during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. What are the special ethical obligations assumed by architects? Because their work creates the basic material conditions that make all other human activity possible, architects and their associates in building enjoy vast influence on how we all live, work, play, worship, and think. With this influence comes tremendous, and not always examined, responsibility. This book addresses the range of ethical issues that architects face, with a broad understanding of ethics. Beyond strictly professional duties - transparency, technical competence, fair trading - lie more profound issues that move into aesthetic, political, and existential realms. Does an architect have a duty to create art, if not always beautiful art? Should an architect feel obliged to serve a community and not just a client? Is justice a possible orientation for architectural practice? Is there such a thing as feeling compelled to "shelter being" in architectural work? By taking these usually abstract questions into the region of physical creation, the book attempts a reformulation of "architectural ethics" as a matter of deep reflection on the architect's role as both citizen and caretaker.

Summary:
For the past three years, the Spain Yearbook has been complemented by a special edition of AV Monographs that is an invitation to travel the world through twelve foreign works presented by Luis Fernández-Galiano, who reflects on the uncertain contemporary landscape. The year has been marked by political, turmoil in the US, but there have been other relevant issues on the international level, such as the unstoppable rise of China and the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. The buildings of the year include long-awaited landmarks such as Heneghan Peng's Grand Egyptian Museum, Norman Foster's JPMorgan Headquarters in New York, and Sou Fujimoto's ring for the Osaka Expo; typological revisions by Herzog & de Meuron at Calder Gardens, OFFICE for the Swiss television, and Diller Scofidio+Renfro at the Victoria & Albert Storehouses; cultural refurbishments such as those by Nouvel in Paris, Pihlmann in Copenhagen, and MAD in Rotterdam; and the tectonic displays of Grafton Architects in Fayetteville, Vector Architects in Jingdezhen, and Aidia Studio in Nicolás Bravo.
